Title: Longer beginning readers?
Post by: Mara on August 14, 2014, 08:32 AM
For a WFH job, I'm looking for examples of beginning readers with about a 2.0 reading level (Flesch-Kinkaid) and 2500 words. The closest I have found are Mercy Watson and Nate the Great, but they have fewer words and a higher reading level. Anybody know a book or series that gets very close to 2.0 and 2500 words?

Thanks!

Maybe PINKY AND REX series. But the reading level is closer to 3.

The books in Scholastic's Branches series like KUNG POW CHICKEN and PRINCESS PINK are close to that word count and they place them in Grade 2 reading level. Not sure how that correlates with FK level though.

mine ears are burning...

The Branches site does list all the word counts and levels for each series: http://www.scholastic.com/branches/index.htm  But I think the ones Katy suggested are the closest to that.

Sorry, forgot to come back and thank you all! Cyndi, KUNG POW CHICKEN is terrific. I think it's hilarious that the little sibling is an unhatched egg!
