Title: Are you a member of CANSCAIP?
Post by: Artemesia on September 17, 2014, 05:02 PM

I have been thinking of joining CANSCAIP. Can anyone tell me about their experience? It seems like a great organization, but you know, $85 is $85. :dollar <--picture that in pretty Canadian currency colors, oops, I mean colours.  :moose

I've been a member for several years; their publication (four times a year, I think) is a great resource to find out what other (mostly Canadian) kid lit writers are up to, and there's market information as well as tips on the writing life. They also hold a great conference every October, but I haven't yet attended. Members get to have a profile page on the CANSCAIP site (http://www.canscaip.org/Sys/PublicProfile/5889559/1160952), and I've actually gotten some writing business through my page. Well worth the $85, I'd say. :bananakilt

I am not a member but attended a meeting when I traveled to Canada for work. They welcomed me with open arms as an SCBWI member and I attended as a guest for the evening. The meeting I attended was a show case and presentation of the work of four illustrators and a party afterwards. It was very inspiring -though I'm not an illustrator I learned a lot and had a great time.
