Title: Favorite picture books with delightful language?
Post by: olmue on February 18, 2015, 12:51 PM
Just looking for recommendations of recent picture books with wonderfully fun language to read aloud. Like Hand, Hand, Fingers, Thumb, with a rhythm or fun words that get in your head--but of course, much newer than that. ;) Maybe past 5 years or so?

TOUCAN CAN! by Juliette MacIver and Sarah Davis (Gecko Press 2014) has wonderful language (playful rhythm and rhyme), although one or two of the rhymes will not work for folks in the US.

For fun language, take a look at Linda Urban's MOUSE WAS MAD, Tammi Sauer's MR. DUCK MEANS BUSINESS, and Kristy Dempsey's SURFER CHICK.

Woolbur by Leslie Helakoski. It's a book that can be read over and over without getting tired of it. I love the language in it and wish I'd written it. :)

Hi Rose!

I recommend anything written by fabulous Corey Rosen Schwartz, like "Goldie Rocks and the three bears", "Three ninja pigs" and "Ninja Red Riding Hood". They're excellent! :)

Hugs!
