Title: Books on Fantasy World Building
Post by: christa-hogan on June 14, 2016, 01:47 PM
I'm working on revisions for my YA fantasy novel. Can anyone recommend titles that helped them with strengthening their world building? Thanks!

I've found articles on general world building in fiction to be helpful for this. You have to build every character's world. Sorry I can't be of more help.

Thanks, Debbie. That's been my experience too. Hmm, great nf book idea for some industrious fantasy author out there. :)

There a ton of blog posts on this topic.  For example: http://www.sfwa.org/2009/08/fantasy-worldbuilding-questions/  I Googled 'novel world building'.  Good luck.

You might want to look at Malinda Lo's website. Also "Writing Magic" by Gail Carson Levine is not exclusively about fantasy, but she is an excellent fantasy/fairy tale writer and the book is so much fun.
