Title: Brand new writer
Post by: linda-allee-brickey on January 25, 2019, 05:34 AM

Good Morning! OK I'm a brand new writer of a children's book hopefully the beginning of a series. I've written a manuscript
but have no idea where to go now.  Is there someone out there that can point me in the right direction? I have well meaning friends but
I'm clueless.

Thanks so much! I have great aspirations!

:welcome  I see that you are in Waco and the SCBWI group in Brazos Valley is active:  Reach out to them to join a critique group, go to their meetings. You will learn a lot. You can also post your story for critique in the private SCBWI critique boards here . Also, there are wonderful books for self-study. See this thread for some recommendations:  It's a wonderful journey. Enjoy!

:welcome Linda and congratulations on having written your first book. V, gave you some excellent suggestions on what to do now. You'll also find a wealth of information on these boards once you've had time to look around.

Hi All, this is my first attempt on the SCBWI Blueboard.  I'm so glad to have found it! I too have just written my first two children's picture books.  I can feel an encouraging hand on my back pushing me forward to the next step, which is why I'm here tonight.  Where can I find the critique boards to submit my first drafts/completed projects?  I appreciate any encouragement you can offer!  Thank you.

Here's the SCBWI critique section.
The different areas of the board are color coded. SCBWI is green. The open area (here) is blue.  Happy reading and posting.

Hi guys! Welcome to the world of kidlit!

If you're looking for information about next steps, you might consider joining some of the great kidlit groups on Facebooks. They can be helpful for sharing ideas and information--and getting support as you write and submit.

One popular one is Kidlit411:

There are also others specific to genre, for example, picture books, middle grade, and YA, as well.

Best, Susan
