Picture Books (PB) / Fictional Picture Books with STEM topics
« Last post by marla-lesage on October 06, 2019, 05:30 AM »
My current WIP is a fictional story in a real setting with ties to STEM - specifically science.

How do you show/prove/suggest your story would be a good fit in the classroom?
Is there a list of STEM topics?

I have facts about the natural environment woven into the story & am working on backmatter.

Hi vaibhav. Are you hoping to both write and illustrate a GN or illustrate only? One of the best ways to get a handle on the making of a GN is to read/study as many of them as you can. It seems like GN's are hugely popular in India too, so I'd head to your library and borrow as many as you can carry. You already know about storyboarding, that will be a huge help.
Also I found Mark Fearing's "how to make a graphic novel" a great first step on getting started.

Have you looked at the sticky topics of this board?  https://www.scbwi.org/boards/index.php?topic=66822.0 There are links there. Scott McLeod's books are amazing resources which cover everything u need to know re: illustrating. I found Cheryl Klein's Magic Words helpful for the writing aspect (not specific to GNs).
I know of other resources for writing/submitting, I'll try to find the links & add them to the sticky thread.
I don't see a Graphic Novel section on Kidlit411.com but many of the resources there would be relevant.

I am an concept  artist in animation studio, so my work criteria is storyboarding. I am very keen to create a graphic novel, but I have no knowledge about it, but I can illustrate. So, how i can use my illustrating capabilities in this area. Want to know about it. Need help.
