Title: Stories for Children
Post by: murphy44 on November 17, 2014, 05:12 PM
Glad to be back on these boards. People are so helpful here. Just found out from these boards that Stories for Children Ezine is no longer publishing. I wondered about two of my poems they published a few years back. I feel as if these poems may have a shot elsewhere. Two of my poems were accepted in Highlights High Five and I would like to try submitting the poems published in Stories for Children to Highlights. If Highlights doesn't accept works previously published, would that mean I lost any chance of submitting them (even if Stories no longer exists?) Thanks!

Kathleen, Highlights states very clearly in their submission guidelines (https://www.highlights.com/contributor-guidelines) their stand on reprints-- "We buy all rights, including copyright and do not consider previously published material."

So it doesn't matter if Stories for Children no longer exists. If they published your poems, then Highlights says they won't republish them.

That doesn't mean there aren't other children's magazines that might consider using your poems. My personal experience has been that non-paying or low-paying markets are the most likely bets for seeing my pieces in print a second time.

Another option you might investigate is Schoolwide. Look on the Work-for-Hire & Calls for Submission board. There's a thread there about them. They're willing to consider previously published material.

Best wishes to you.
