Title: Spider acceptance
Post by: Starfish on June 10, 2016, 07:42 AM
I'm so excited that SPIDER has accepted my revised multicultural short story for their Nov/Dec 2016 issue! It's my first sale to the Cricket Media Group. I can't wait to see the artwork when it's published - I always love their vivid artwork. I'd given up hope on this one because of the long wait to hear back, but the wait was so worth it!

And the revision process yielded an unexpected bonus: it got my then 3-year-old twin son and daughter to sleep on their own. With 80 words to cut at 1am and the revision due the next morning, I suddenly hear the pitter-patter of my darling children's feet, and then they're standing bleary-eyed in front of me, wanting me to go lie down with them for at least two hours. I told them, "Mommy has work to do," and sent them back, very confused. (I still feel a little guilty about that but at least that bad nightly ritual was broken!) And thankfully they couldn't go to Daddy as he'd been called into work. :)

Aw, I love this and also how sweetly your children went back to bed. Congratulations!!! The bug magazines do such wonderful artwork. You'll have to remind us again when the story is out so we can ooh and aah over it with you!!!

Starfish, you are my hero! First because you sold a story to SPIDER, which is huge. And second because you got your twins to sleep on their own. I, too, am struggling with my twins to sleep on their own. I will try your 1am writing technique, ha! CONGRATS!!!!

Thank you so much, Vijaya, Ann, Melissa, JFriday, Cathie, Dinalapomy101, Christine, Anne Marie, Cindy and Brianna!

Vijaya, it's an Indian-American Diwali story.

Dinalopomy101, do try them again! The editor's responses were very nice and encouraging.

Christine, lol. Don't give up. We actually thought about consulting a sleep therapist, it was so bad.  But tucking them in and then working outside their room really did help us. We told them we were right outside so they didn't feel so isolated. Sometimes, I would even do noisy work so they knew I was there. Also, making their room comfy, where they picked their own bedding and decorated their bedroom walls with their own artwork, helped. We also found a nightlight the twins like. Wishing you lots of luck. Feel free to PM me about twin stuff if you want. I'm always needing advice...

YAY, Starfish!!! What exciting news! I'm so happy for you. :drumroll Please do remind when the publication comes out in November.

And clearly you're a very creative mom when it comes to problem-solving for your twins. I like all the things you did to make things work.

A big  :yay for you, Starfish! Congratulations!

Also, to any twin moms who are struggling with bedtime--or potty training, or eating issues--my twin girls are now 15 and I can assure you it all works out. They're sleeping, eating, and eliminating all by themselves now!  :lol5

(However, I might need reassurance from a mom of older twins myself about driving issues...EEK!)

Thank you, Ev, onestepp, Dianna, DellaRF, Diana, Jayca, Kell, Vijaya, Sara, and Venessa!

Ev, my wonderful husband played a huge role in making their room comfy. Not sure I would have survived all of that without him.

Sara, it's good to know it's all survivable! I'm glad my twins won't be driving for at least another 10 years. Driverless cars may be the norm by then, though that's scary too. Good luck with your twins' driving! :)

Good luck with your twins' driving!

Thanks, Starfish! Thankfully, I have a supportive husband who is doing all the heavy work with the driving practice. :)
