Title: Magazine writing in workshops or conferences?
Post by: tracy-vonder-brink on June 19, 2017, 01:29 PM
I've done the Highlights Foundation "Nonfiction: Crafting Picture Books and Articles" and "Nuts and Bolts of Science Writing" (which focuses on writing science but is certainly applicable to articles).

Are there any other workshops and/or conferences that have magazine writing tracks?

Thanks!
Tracy

Sometimes, but not that often. I don't know if there are any currently scheduled, but when I come across them I list them here: http://vonnacarter.com/wordpress/appearances-editors/ (http://vonnacarter.com/wordpress/appearances-editors/)

Pat Miller does a wonderful nonfiction conference in the fall that includes writing for magazines, but she hasn't announced it yet for this fall. You can see the faculty she had last year here: http://www.patmillerbooks.com/faculty.html (http://www.patmillerbooks.com/faculty.html)

Suggest it to your regional SCBWI group if you have a way to provide feedback on what you are looking for.  Our Mid-Atlantic region has done several local NF writing workshops the last few years because several of us have asked for them. They've been quite good and very well attended!

Good luck in finding some. I love NF!
