Title: Seeking sample query letter *in Korean*
Post by: olmue on August 27, 2018, 06:56 AM
Hi, I'm wondering if anyone here would have a sample query letter to a Korean publisher (or know the key words to effectively google)--in Korean, not English. I am trying to contact the copyright holder regarding a possible English translation of a book, and of course want to sound as professional as possible. However, most of the sample Korean letters I can find online are more on the line of, Oppa! I'm your biggest fan! Saranghaeyo! --than of um, actual professional correspondence. :) Yes, of course, I could translate an English business letter into Korean, but just as there are expected conventions for a query letter in English, I'm sure there are such things in Korean, too. Ideas?

No ideas except that you propose already. It will have your voice stamp all over it. I'm going to go out on a limb here and paint all Asians with a big brush stroke but it is typical to show humility or be self-deprecating, even in formal correspondence. So you could mention how much you love this book and how you want to introduce it to the West, unworthy though you may be, and then list your credentials :grin3

Yes, I definitely think that being extra humble is probably an important factor in this whole thing...
