Odyssey submission- fiction

Discussion started on

Hi all, i have another question. I'd like to send some fiction to Odyssey magazine. Their guidelines say query with outline, sources, bibliography, etc. which sounds like its for their nonfiction. Should I query about short fiction (less than 1000 words) or just send the story in? Thanks! Karen

I would just send the entire story...and remember, it has to be science fiction.

Hi, Karen,
I've sold fiction to Odyssey and it's imperative that it fit the theme of the issue.  It doesn't necessarily have to be science fiction.  Mine were contemporary YA short stories.  Good luck.

But they have to be short stories with a science bent, right?

They have to fit the theme, Wheeler ...
For instance, I wrote a story about interracial dating where the theme was about skin and color.
Another story was about the relationship between two girls, one thin, one fat -- the theme was Weight.
These stories weren't particularly science-y ... but they fit the theme for that month.
Odyssey tries to run one fiction per issue ... so good luck!
