SCBWI's Blueboard - A Message & Chat Board

I Worked on My WIP Today

Discussion started on

I suppose using :whip on  :cat is animal cruelty, isn't it?  I have been really trying to write, but the cat is trying me more.
Kiperoo, well done on writing.  And don't feel guilty about posting in "I Wrote A Thousand Words Today Club".  I have NEVER achieved that and I post there all of the time.  It is my ambition to do it.  Not quite the same.
After I leave my beastie boy at home this afternoon, I should get some real writing done.

Ooooooh! I have been averaging between 300 and 800 words most days, but I got 1132 today!!!! I am NOT posting in the 1,000 words club, because this is definitely not an everyday occurrence, but  :yay

Go kiperoo!!

I'm at seven hundred words so far today...maybe I will be able to post in 1K words too.  :)  It feels like a tourniquet's been taken off and the words are finally flowing--my characters are starting to talk (this is a new book)!

642 words during my lunch hour!

Not only did I work on my WIP today, I finished said WIP and shipped it off to my critique partners. I finished (meaning draft and loose revision) this book in about two years, which is so super fine with me, considering the first took 4 times as long!

I revised my WIP today, added a few words and cut a bunch more. I even wrote a query for it....even though I don't plan on subbing it just yet. It needs simmer time.

I made a change that made it necessary to go back and change some of the pages I'd already revised. I ended up going over the whole section and tightening things up. Just as I reached the part I had been plannning on working on, the kids came downstairs and demanded breakfast. On  a side note, why do all my best ideas come when I am busy with the kids and unable to write?

Those ideas ALWAYS come when you can't manage to jot them on something.  They say writers should take a pen and paper everywhere they go, just in case an idea comes to them.  What happens when you don't the chance to stand and jot?
Something fell on my character's head yesterday and I don't know how serious it is.  It took 200 words to make it happen.  Not much.

One of my current WIPs is a contracted WFH 400 word science book. I know i will finish, i have a deadline. But I have written the 400 words at least 12 times. -- I'm looking for validation on this thread since when we write short, we might write 1,000 words a day, but erase most of them. So I wrote 100 words that I will keep today. Maybe I'll get back and write some more this afternoon. :crossedfingers

(I really shouldn't complain too much. This is what I want to do. But it is frustrating while in the middle of it  :bangcomputer)

LOL!!!!

I split one chapter into two and managed to work in my MC's sudden realization as to what is really taking place in the grand scheme of things. I knew it had to happen soon, I just wasn't sure where it needed to go. But the perfect moment presented itself... and I recognized it.  I do enjoy these moments. I wish I were rolling along better, though. I seem to be hitting a bunch of speed bumps today.

Went back to my w.i.p and my character resolved his problem.  He's quite happy with himself and so am I. :yay

I only wrote a couple of hundred words in my WIP right now, but I feel pretty good about it because that's the 8th day in a row I've worked on it. After 4 years of working on my first manuscript it feels very satisfying to be consistently productive on a new WIP like this. I'd almost forgotten what it's like.

Ha, ha, ha! A writer who writes the way I do! I love it! :yay Now what I need to know today is... does writing six zillion words on here and Facebook about my missing photographs from the wedding count towards my WIP even though they have nothing whatsoever to do with it? <looks around at everyone and DARES anyone to say, "Sorry, but no, those don't count."> :skull :whip :guns

:bow :bow Of course they count, ma'am.   :hiding

I don't know Macs, but might it be worth talking to a Mac specialist about try to recover those files?  Worth a small shot anyway?

Only about 300 today, but hey, that's a page I didn't have written yesterday.

Haha, Lyon!

Well I, after proudly announcing yesterday that I was done with WIP and had shipped it to CPs, discovered handwritten notes on the first 23 chapters of the ms that I had failed to update in the word file. So, I've been sitting at the kitchen table for the past 6 hours, since the minute I got home from work, and have entered every last one of them. Now my butt hurts, but I am done. Again. I call on the funky chicken to celebrate...

Have finally gotten back on this thread to report that I at last figured out how to reconfigure my plot and subplots (via a rambling, 10-pg single spaced document plot summary that took me a couple of weeks to develop).  So I'm done with the re-plotting phase and I have to get my head (and butt) back into the ACTUALLY WRITING THE DANG THING phase.

Only about 300 today, but hey, that's a page I didn't have written yesterday.
Why do I always feel like a cheat when I read posts like these (no offence)?  I could write that and feel proud of myself.
Well, it is Friday and I haven't written as well as I could have done this week, but I am blaming the fact that John is on holidays.  Unfortunately, he was forced into taking them by his boss, who is making him redundant at the start of September.  I think a WHIP may be more appropriate there.

So nice to read everyone's progress! Wow, finished and re-finished, Laura - chicken dance indeed!

And holy cow, Verla, what a cake! Worth thousands of words, looks like (yum!).

I'm still going, some days better than others, esp. since I'm on a road trip with my twin toddlers (eep!), but still going is the key, right?

Kiperoo--twin toddlers on a road trip *faints at the very thought!* My singleton toddler has run off with half my brain cells, I don't know how you do it.

400 words tonight! I've got some details and research to work out, but I think this one is a keeper.

I'm taking the weekend off. I wrote some where between 5,000 and 6,000 words last week -the most I've ever written in a week. It's been so awesome! I hope I can repeat it next week.... please.... please.... please

Heh.  My twins are 16 now.  It gets easier.  :)
300 yesterday and 550 today.  Progress!

Big difference in scale, Fiona--you write PBs and I write YA...300 words for a PB is a HUGE deal!
So sorry to hear about John...I know things are tough over there.  :hug

I'm feeling pretty successful these days just be putting in some time on the WIP every day, regardless of word count. That said, I did produce 600 words today. The result was an increased role for the vampire character, which is a bit confounding, but since my new WIP is largely built on monster-movie characters I think it fits within the overall scheme of things. My vampire is not broody, overly melodramatic, covered with sparkles, interested in protecting any other characters, or about to get someone pregnant...

Yep, Artemesia.  Just type in the code for it - a colon : then the word juggle touching the colon and there it is! :juggle  Just make sure there's a space before the colon and after the last word in the code so the image will appear and not the code (like this:juggle).

Verla, you keep telling me this, lol (honestly, I'm not trying to bug you!!) but I get scared that I'd try a smiley without knowing the code (or knowing if one even exists) and then it wouldn't work, and I'd feel silly and be laughed off the boards etc....  :feelbad I'm getting help, honest. Daily injections of cake should do the trick.  :cupcake
