Magazine acceptance: How do you respond?

Discussion started on

Hi everyone,

For those veteran magazine writers: if you get an email saying "we're publishing your story, expect a contract soon," would you respond to the email? Or would you just wait for the contract? I could write something like "I am thrilled that you want to publish my story" etc. But I don't want to bug them if that isn't necessary--i was wondering what standard practice is. Thank you!

Actually, I usually do send a quick response. Though it's usually VERY brief like "Thank you. I'll look forward to it."

I know how often emails don't arrive so I like to let the editor know it got where it was meant to go. But I don't chat usually, especially if the email I received wasn't chatty.

I am far from a veteran, but I also have replied to the acceptances I've gotten by email. Very brief, though. I do a more flowery (though still brief) thank you in the cover letter with my next submission.

I'm curious to hear what others do as well.

Cheers!

I would avoid words like "thrilled," since maybe it sounds a little needy?

I know we are all needy that way, but we don't want to COME OFF as needy. :)
