Cricket Response Times

Discussion started on

Howdy Again!

I understand the response times for Cricket Magazine is between 3 and 6 months.  What is the longest you had to wait before you received an acceptance from Cricket (or Spider, Baby Bug, etc., for that matter)?

Merci, Merci!

I have not had anything accepted recently, but my last submission to them took eight months for a rejection. In the past, I've usually gotten an acceptance within four months. If you haven't heard anything in six months, I'd suggest you send a status check e-mail.

I subbed a poem on April 10th (over 7 months ago) via the online Submittable site. I checked the site today and it still says the sub is "in progress". Not sure how you check status when the sub was sent via their Submittable page. Does anyone know? Thank you for any ideas.

Hey Az,

You definitely should submit a follow-up e-mail, asking if they made a decision yet.  Their response time is 3-6 months.

It doesn't look like you can contact Cricket through Submittable (it appears they disabled the "add note" option); however, I would use the contact form here: http://www.cricketmag.com/contact_us.asp  Just scroll all the way to the bottom.

Good luck!  I bet they are considering your poem!  No news is good news, as far as I am concerned.   ;D

6/20/14-subbed fiction through Submittable
10/27/14-email form R
2/10/15-email from LP with contract, asking if story is still available (yes!) *edited to add: apparently, the editor put it aside to possibly use in the future, AND the first reader rejected it. Not quite sure how that worked.

Congratulations, Sara! Will your story be in CRICKET or a different bug magazine? Did you get a response on 10/27/14? I wasn't sure what you meant by "email form R."

I sent two stories through Submittable on 7/21/2014 and both were rejected, one on 10/28/2014 and the other on 11/6/2014. Both were e-mailed rejections with comments and one was from an assistant editor. So the response time was about 4 months. Both stories  were sent to Spider.

Thanks, Sheila. I didn't explain that well, did I? I got the form email R on 10/27, but somehow the editor had also put it aside to consider. A mixup, I guess. And yes, it will be in CRICKET.

Sounds like you got really close--good luck with your next sub!

I just received a form reject from Cricket after 179 days. I don't mind the rejection. They're part of the business. I do mind having six months of my time wasted.
