I have been sending some of my illustrations to the SCBWI Bulletin and that's fine, but I would like to branch out. I was wondering if there are any Magazines out there with a similar submission system as the Bulletin that wants/allows you to submit illustrations without them being assigned. I have the Children's Writer and Illustrator Market (and have looked through it heavily). It seems to me that they mostly want to put things on assignment. Do any of you know of ones that allow for illustrations to be submitted this way?

When I send to magazines, I find the magazines where I think my work would be a good fit and then look up their submission guidelines in the Children's Writer and Illustrator Market book and online. If there are no submission guidelines, I just snail mail a color sample with a brief intro letter to the editor or art director. This has worked for me in the past. Good luck!
