[Folks, we're trying hard to keep the Response Times board just for response times. When you have questions like this one, please post them here in the Magazines & Ezines board. I moved this series of posts.

Thanks bunches,

Hey, Sara and Asingrey,

I've not subbed to them before. Do they pay competitively? Is it worth the cost of mailing?

Thanks!

Jody,

They buy one-time Australian rights and pay $270 (AUD) per 1000 words. Here are the guidelines: http://theschoolmagazine.com.au/documents/15236512/15241434/Submission%20guidelines%20for%20writers.pdf

It usually costs about $3-4 for me to mail a story.

Thanks, Sara. You talked me into it. I'm going to see what I've got for them.

Hi Jody,

The story on 5/5/15 is my first submission to them, so I don't have anything to add to what Sara told you, other than good luck!

What's the longest anyone has had to wait for a response from School Magazine? I have a story that has been there nine months. Is that normal? And do they send rejections or just acceptances?

asingrey,

I just SQd by email on a story that I sent in March. I heard back from the editor who said they've been swamped. He said my ms had been in a folder of mss they want to take but need tweaking, so he asked me to R and R.

All that to say, maybe your ms is in the same folder. :) You could try SQing by email--I don't always hear back when I do this, but I did this time.

Also, re: your other question, I've rarely gotten Rs without SQing first, even though the website says they'll let you know either way.

Good luck!
