As I mentioned on another thread, I'm excited to have a puzzle in the January issue of Highlights. I want to share with my Facebook friends. Is it okay for me to scan a copy of the cover and post it on FB with my news or do I have to ask Highlights?

GO, EV!!!  :running :congratulations

I can't for the life of me think of any reason why they would object to this, Ev, though I really don't know anything about the world of magazines. It's not as though you are profiting from unauthorized use and it means free publicity for them. In fact, I can't for the life of me think of any reason why they wouldn't want you to.

Thank you for your response, Hilary!  :hug I just never know about these sorts of things, so it's good to hear your opinion.

Just to be polite, I would ask them. Of course they will be happy about it--and they might even share your post for wider exposure. It's always good to keep publishers in the loop when you are doing publicity, I think.

Ev, that's great! I've always asked permission from my publishers to post covers and they give it happily because it's a win-win situation.

Ev, you could also take a picture of you holding the magazine up. Then you wouldn't need permission AND we'd see your smiling face.

Congrats by the way!

You could also check their Facebook page and see if they've posted it. I think sharing anything that they put out there publicly themselves is always acceptable. Especially if you share the original post right from their page.

Thanks for everybody's suggestions. Asingrey, I checked on their Facebook page and, unfortunately, the cover wasn't there. Kristen, yours is a great idea (but I'm not looking my best these days and didn't really want to do that).

So, I thought--this won't take long, I'll just call Highlights. Ummmm, wrong....after three phone calls and having to wait while I was transferred to two other people, I was finally told that they don't want me to scan their cover and post it. They will email me--in several days-- an acceptable, copyrighted image that I can use.

Why is nothing easy in this publishing adventure we're all on?!    :grin3

That's good tho, Ev! They want you to have a high quality image for sharing! My publisher provided me with high res images of my covers too for publicity purposes.

And yay about the puzzle!

Well, I'm impressed. They were very prompt.  :thankyou Highlights.

But they sent me an image of the puzzle itself instead of the cover. I would've thought they'd want people to use the cover instead of sharing actual magazine content on social media, but I guess not.

Live and learn.

You could be right, Arty. The person I was talking with last was planning to pass on the request to the appropriate person, and we all know how that old game of Telephone used to work.  :grin3
