Ally, you have to be made a member by one of the administrators.  It can sometimes take a little time, sorry!  It used to be automatic, but we started getting some abuse of the system.

Hi all

I'm a children's writer in the UK.  I've just finished work on a series of kids' horror novels for a UK publisher (can't say too much until they're out!), and the first book in my next series is currently with my agent for notes.  I'm now checking email every 30 seconds or so!

I've also had some success with non-fiction, and write for both the stage and children's TV here in the UK.

I'm looking forward to taking part in the forum!

Hello to all of you on the 38th page of this montrous thread! My name is Angie (a.k.a. Running2StandStill), and according to the "key stats" box up near the address bar I am the latest member of Verla's site. I have been addicted to the SCBWI boards for some time and thought I'd spread my wings and fly on over to Verla's. I write for YA and MG audiences mostly, and have a few articles published in kids mag's, but am currently trying to get "The Novel" published. Crossing my fingers right now b/c an agent has requested the full...

But I just wanted to say hello, and I'll be seeing you on the threads!  :typing:

Hi, I'm brand new here, but have been peeking for a while. What an incredible group of people you all seem to be - so full of support & insight.
I write YA and was working with an agent for a while before we decided to part company so, I guess, I'm headed back to the drawing board.
I work in TV news full time, but someday (when I grow up) I hope to make this writing thing work for me.
Thanks everyone for making this feel like such a welcome place!

That's it, I am officially de-lurking.  Hi, my name is Tori, and I write YA novels (specifically fantasy at the moment).  My publishing credits so far are limited to What If magazine, community publications, and a photo in Teen Ink, but I have high hopes for the book I am rewriting right now. :)  I'm a huge fan of music -- if you've ever read Sarah Dessen's Just Listen and remember the character of Owen, that's pretty much how often I listen -- and my tastes extend to almost anything, except for country, rap, and most pop.  U2 and the Calling are two of my favourite bands.  I've been stage acting as a serious hobby since 2002, although I took this year off.  I love to draw, read, and devour as much as possible about European history, and I am a huge fan of the dark side of Faerie and anything Camelot/Arthur/Guinevere-ish.

I'm glad to be here, glad to watch, glad to share, so I look forward to getting to know you.  :)  Happy St. Patrick's Day!  :clover

Welcome Tori!  I loved "Just Listen" and thought Owen was a great character.  It was easy to visualize him listening to his varying music choices.
Have fun on the boards!

Welcome, Tori - I'm a big U2 fan, too. :band

Even my 9yo son has become a U2 fan ... it's amazing to watch a second generation become enamored of them. I try to introduce him to other bands, as well ... but he's devoted to them!

Enjoy the boards -

G.R., Lisa, and Lisa, thank you for the kind welcome!  U2 was the first band I ever devoted serious money to.  They just came out with a CD of 18 singles, including a few new ones, and despite the fact that I already have most of the songs on other CDs, I naturally had to buy this one as well. :D I look forward to seeing you and everyone else around the boards.

Now, time to stop procrastinating and go back to my rewrites!   :typing:

Hi, Everyone.  I'm Melanie -- a newbie from California.  Glad to find a group of children's writers to connect w/ and hoping to contribute.  I write mostly p.b.s, though I have a middle grade chapter book in the works...hoping it goes well.  My first p.b. "The Hat that Wore Clara B." is coming out Fall '08 w/ FSG.  Pretty excited.  Thanks for a great board.  I enjoy it!

Welcome, Melanie! :) Congratulations on your first PB getting accepted, and I hope you have fun posting here. (I've been primarily working on PBs, too, but nothing's been accepted yet.)

I've been lurking here for awhile, and it's probably long past time to introduce myself.

I started writing Young Adult Urban Fantasy in December.   I suppose I'm something of a newbie, considering that the only thing I've written over the last decade was ad copy.  I'm fond of the genre though, and rather pleased that it seems to have fallen into favor of late.

The Verla Kay boards have been a great resource in getting me ready to take necessary steps after completion of my first YA novel, not to mention a real buffer against the immensity of it all.  I hope that I'll be able to contribute something meaningful to community here, even if it is just my own search for representation.

*waves* It's about time you de-lurked ;)  There's an almost disturbing amt of great people here. I've been kept closer to sane by being around them.  I'm glad to see that you're coming out of the shadows to join us . . .

Hello, My name is Anita,  my burning questions (where do all those cute animations on everyone's posts come from?) just got answered when I hit the replay button at the bottom of 38th page of introductions.javascript:void(0);  I'm sure I'll have more burning questions as time goes on.  I've enjoyed reading the posts so far.  Now I'm inspired to sit down and write javascript:void(0);.

Hi!  My name is Coleen, and I write YA.  (Hi, Coleen).--Sorry.  Just had to do that.

Anyway, my YAs are all unpublished so far, though my last one, called Skipping Stones, got all the way up to acquisitions in Scholastic before it got turned down.

Right now I'm tying up the loose ends on my latest YA, called Liberty Belz & The Suburb of Doom, which is about a circus family who runs away to the suburbs.   With a smartass 14 year old protagonist, a lot of social satire, ghosts, psychics, and a murder mystery thrown in, Liberty Belz is probably nobody's idea of literary fiction, but it has been (mostly) a lot of fun to write.

Liberty Belz took first place in both the San Francisco Writing Contest and the Pikes Peak Writing Contest, which has me pretty stoked.  Now if I could just finish wrapping it up so I could get it to my agent (Caryn Wiseman), everything would be golden!

Nice to meet you all!

Hi all -- I sort of introduced myself before, but ... not here.

I just started coming to the board and I'm totally addicted!  I love answering questions, I read a lot and I'm a know-it-all, so this is a great procrastination site for me (as well as being very friendly and informative, so it's perfect!)

I'm a buyer for an independent bookstore in Northern California.   I'm also the events coordinator and kids/YA specialist.  And I run an author series (plus blog) called Not Your Mother's Book Club.  Oh, and I'm in school for writing.  Oh, and I'm an intern for a literary agent.

You see why I need to procrastinate?

I know a lot of you from LJ land, but I hope to meet even more of you now!

I thought perhaps it was time I introduced myself.  My name is Heather and I live in Salem, Oregon. I’ve been writing children’s book since college.  It was something to pass the time during semester breaks and turned into an addiction. I’ve had some things published in children’s magazines, but I’m hoping to get a book contract someday, at least that’s my goal.  I write just about everything: From young adult to picture books.  I don’t write about anything in particular just what strikes me.  I would say that the majority of my stuff has some sort of fantasy element to it though, but not all.  I lurked on this board for about a year before I joined and I’m very glad I did.  I check it all the time.

Anyway, just wanted to say, “Hi!”  The picture is my cat, Noah.  I write a lot late at night and he’s the only one that stays up with me, so I thought he was owed his due.
