Thank you moderators for working so hard at keeping this the great place for writers that it is!!

Just thought I'd chime in and say I didn't get any personal message from "Robert" nor was there one attached to my warning from Anne Marie.  I signed on last night about 1:00am MST and there was already a chain started about the porn spam, but I, thankfully, didn't have any.

I deleted them from my incoming email before I even got Anne Marie's message.

I saw the link that was included and could tell that it was a porn site.

I was getting too much of that on my message board on my web site, where the message was neutral, but there were links that obviously went to porn sites.  I had to delete so many that eventually I just disabled my message board.  I didn't want to do that, as it was fun to read the regular posts, but I didn't want to take any chances anyone would follow those links.

Sad state of affairs!  :(

Thank you all for taking care of this. I didn't hit the links but I was pretty sure what it was.

Thanks again.

thanks, All!  I also only get the urls for pix, so I didn't have to see anything -- I'm not sure why some people do get urls and others get the actual pix...but it said right in the url stuff that I knew I didn't want to see, so I deleted right then and there.  And I was also able to scroll down my list of PMs to delete without having to open anything.  And Anne Marie, you must have already taken care of the url being attached to your message, because it wasn't there when I opened yours moments ago.

Thank you so much for your vigilance -- the five of you make this board such a safe and special place! :D

:faint: Is there a vomit icon somewhere?  I opened my email today here on the site and my middle little one was sitting beside me. Yes, my 4 year old. Hopefully, I got it off the screen before she realized the deformity that was on there. UGH!!!!!

I know you all are doing all you can. Thanks for your continued perseverence.

Yeah this is the real problem. I don't have little ones scampering about me when I'm online (or any other time) but many of you do so these kinds of spam are especially nasty. This reminds me of Michael Richard's (aka Kramer) outburst during his stand-up routine. Thanks for the explanation Anne Marie.

Anne Marie and All,

Thank you for all the hard work you do (and did) regarding this! I was on late last night and saw the messages, but had full confidence that the messages would be deleted quickly. I appreciate everything you do to keep this board focused on writing for children, and highly value everyone's input across the boards. This is a fabulous resource, and the fast responses to glitches like this only confirm that!

Happy writing, everyone!

Thank you so much for taking care of this quickly.  There's no need to apologize.  I know how hard you work to keep our boards clean, and think you've been doing an amazing job.  I had no idea how many spammers you've been dealing with on a daily basis.  It is so sad that we have to deal with problems like that.

I have a question - if someone reports a message, does it temporarily freeze that person's account until one of the administrators can look into the problem?  If not, maybe you could make that happen.  You wouldn't want anyone to be able to freeze an account, but you could use a function like that for all members with 50 or more posts.

Thank you again for taking care of this so quickly!

Mindy,

When a message is reported to the moderators, it's forwarded to the moderators and administrators. We try to respond immediately. Nobody's account is frozen, which is probably a good thing since most of the reported posts have to do appropriateness of post location, or with other minor issues. It's an interesting idea to red flag actual posters if they are posting spam. I don't know if we have the capabilities to do that, but I'll look into it.

Sorry, again, everyone.

And here it was I was excited I got my first mail since signing up for Verla's board.  From the looks of it I guess our buddy was excited too.

Anyway....thanks to all the moderators for the hard work you do in keeping this stuff out of here.

Happy Thanksgiving all!

Can't really laugh about it yet--too revolting.

I received the photo last night, and my daughter was nearby (fortunately I was able to scroll back up quickly enough) but gosh, I was so mad. I know you guys are doing everything you can--thanks. Wouldn't there have to have been fifty posts from this Robert guy before he could pm us? I don't recall seeing any posts on the board from him before.

I didn't receive a warning post from you, AM--did you only send them out to people who hadn't yet seen their messages this morning?

Mindy, there's no automatic freezing.  We have to do it manually.

Lenzi, I sent a PM to the entire board, all 771 members.  If you didn't get it, you may have your settings to disable receiving announcements.  Right now it's set that all registered people can PM.  That may have to change.

This is the first time I've ever seen porn in my PM or on the board itself, and I've been active for about a year and a half.  You've all done a wonderful job keeping our boards clean, and I'm sure you'll be able to keep them that way.

I think we're fine leaving the board the way it is for now, but if other spammers (especially ones with photos) find their way on, then maybe consider adding a freeze button that members can access (it could be all members with over 50, or maybe 500+ posters).  Hopefully, it won't be needed though.  :)

This board is a wonderful, helpful and extremely supportive writers' community, and the fact that you guys work so hard to keep it that way is amazing.  Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

(Those darned spammers can find their way in ANYWHERE, I think...)

I got the photo in my email too - unfortunately I went there before logging on to Verla's today. Ick.

Thanks for sorting things out. It's a shame that anyone would want to attack the board this way.

Thanks to everyone for taking care of this problem so quickly.  It's a shame that people have to be so "rude" and feel the need to force such things on people.  Thanks again...

Why do some people have so much time to waste? Thanks to the moderators for cleaning this up, and especially Anne Marie for warning me.

I checked my e-mail before I went on the board today, and I got a notification about Anne Marie's PM. After that, I immediately went to my messages and deleted two of them by that RobertT guy (I didn't bother to scroll down far enough to actually see the content of the messages, thank goodness). Thanks again, Anne Marie, for the heads-up.

And thanks to the moderators for keeping this board as clean a place as it should be.
