Just in case anybody's interested: twitter.com/diareeves, but I rarely post on the site itself. Mostly other things feed into it, but I'll look into following you guys if I find you. ;)

Hi y'all,

Do you find many twitterers that get an account and then sort of stop tweeting after a few days. I've followed many people and never see any updates. I'm even not tweeting as often as I used to, which used to be about 15-20 tweets a day or more and that was on only one of my 4 twitter accts.

I'm trying to get back into the hang of things with the blueboard, livejournal and twitter, that's it for me in regard to keeping in contact with people. You can follow me @brianhthomas
http://twitter.com/brianhthomas.

Follow me and ask anything about Twitter if you're new to tweeting,
Brian

Brian - I'll be following you (CreativeDrought). So is there some good twitter etiquette you can share? I feel kinda dumb....at first I didn't realize everyone showing up on my page wasn't following me back, so I responded to a tweet from one of those non-followers. Now, of course, I'm thinking she's wondering who the heck I am and naturally, I feel like a dweeb. Is there some unwritten rule about responding to those tweets?

KWYN,

The tweets that show up on your page are the people you follow. It is totally cool to reply to things they are saying. Typically, you or they write something in the little white box that may be interesting to others or sometimes you may tweet what you're eating, but most people don't typically enjoy reading that all the time.

People follow tweet streams (the stuff you write) either on the web or through some software like TweetDeck or DestoryTwitter. Those two software titles allow you to follow people and categorize their tweets into "interesting" "those I want to get to know" "Those with no value." I think you can name your own categories. I've never used that software only because my computer is so low on storage and you must have 3.5 gig of space to install those programs.

A big rule of Twitter is to add value to people's lives. I've had a lot of people thank me for helping them with a little matter, everyone from picture book writers, to photographers and even the president of a public relations firm in Chicago. So a big point with Twitter is don't just take (as in getting replies from people) but give as well. This means you should reply back to the people that send you a note once in a while. When you hit "Mentions of @creativedrought" (I don't think Twitter is case sensitive except with the creation of tiny urls.) You'll see the people who have mentioned your name in their tweets, most often that is in the form of replies to your tweets. Simply hit reply in their tweet. (I just went and followed you and you seem to have replies understood)

The best rules to follow are 1) Add value  2) Reply to others 3) Have a goal for why you use Twitter.

I use my @brianhthomas twitter account for my creative side. I meet people who work in photography and writing, editors, photo buyers, writers, agents, etc. I have another acct where I talk political strategies etc, I also have another account which is about everything and you can follow me there too (@zachshouse) and I also have one that is mainly to talk theological stuff and church planting. You can have more than one acct if you need one, but sometimes that can be confusing.

Probably too much information, but I think Twitter can be a very good tool. Tweet me any questions when you have them.

Talk to you later,
Brian

I'm supposed to add value???
 :oops LOL!

I suppose I should warn anyone who wants to follow me that I add absolutely no value of any kind in my tweets.  :duh I'm there to goof around and vent about my crappy day, my psychotic cats or whatever else is going on in my life at the moment. If you want value, follow Brian.  :chickendance

Warning: I don't always add value. That's just a sometimes thing. And my meaning of value also includes tweeting Happy Mother's Day to a few moms. I'm sure you probably did that sbk.

Peer pressure finally won out and I'm now on Twitter, but apparently it doesn't do any good unless everyone else you know on Twitter starts following you and you start following everyone else you know on Twitter? Eh? <scratches head with one finger>  :eh2  So... if you are on Twitter and want to read about what I did to my poor kitties and what's happening with my current WIP and find out how dumb (at times) I really am... follow me (VerlaKay) and read my 7 entries. :moose

I'm in the same head-scratching Twitter state as you, Verla.

Hiya, Karen! Glad you found me! Isn't Brian clever? :) My entries aren't particularly valuable unless you wanna know what music I like--all my blips post on Twitter. But now that I've got some writer friends on there, I'll be posting my writerly updates. And that's all she wrote, kiddos.

Does anyone except me find that 140 character (including all spaces and punctuation) EXTREMELY limiting? I find I spend a LOT more time trying to create an intelligent post there than I do over in FaceBook. Sheesh.

Limiting, yes. But you get used to it. Also, it helps you learn to recognize how much you put into your sentences that you can leave out. Good practice. I find myself typing what I call, twitter sentences, in everything now, which probably isn't a good thing because they're very often just fragments.

Ah, but my books are all like that. I prefer more leeway in my personal messages than I have in my books. Guess that's why it's so frustrating to me. :)

I find myself fragmenting all the time. I think I may write a picture book soon and do it all in tweets of 140 characters or less. Cool huh?

(The above is 140 characters exactly)    :love

Have been lurking on Twitter for a while.  Finally took the leap and Tweeted my first Tweet (is that the correct way to say it?).

Am doubling back through this thread to add everyone.  Come join me!

I'm doing it, too!  I'm not sure what to say but I like to see how others sum it all up in 140 words.   It's good practice for picture books...

I'm going to try to follow this.

So far, my twitter experience has fallen into two catagories. I'm either talking to myself OR I'm getting hit by spammers with ideas on how to expand the male anatomy. So, following an actual conversation, will be a refreshing change.

I'm ridiculous. I signed on months ago, and didn't tweet once. So...I re-invented myself and I'm going to try it again. I want to join the flock...so I'm now tweeting too.

I hate you, Courtney Summers. I am twitterpated. Now I have less time for Facebook, blogging, my favorite seismic zone site, eating peanut butter with a spoon, MSNing, scratching my dogs, playing with bubble wrap, experimenting with hair doo-dads, reading People magazine in the bathroom, and other very important and time consuming activities that help to make me such a creature of burning intellect. Jeez...

Following you, Edith!
Wonder if there was some twitter glitch yesterday? Either that, or I've done something incredibly stupid (more than likely the case). Went to my page, had 54 followers. The last one was a spammer, so I went to block it. When I clicked back to home, I was down to 51 followers.....and I lost Verla! :'(
Hmmmm.....anyone else have something weird like this happen? Or did I just offend a couple good followers somehow?
