I'm doing it, too, and everyone I know is doing it, but no one seems to know why or how to use it or what good it does.  It's like Twitter is a community of millions of people who signed up because they were supposed to sign up but don't really know what they're doing there or how they're supposed to behave.  Just millions of people assembled on some great mall waiting for the entertainment to begin, but no acts have been booked.

Someone tell me I'm wrong and show me the way!

I haven't looked at it at all.  After the fuss over Twitter being misused by members of Congress during the president's speech as well as Jon Stewart's lampoon of it a few night's ago, I don't think it's for me.  I get sidetracked enough by the Blueboards.  Maybe if I ever get published I'll have to do it, but it escapes me why anyone would be interested in what I'm doing on a daily basis.

What does  RT  mean in some posts on Twitter?

Does it mean Read This ?

It means Retweet, as in someone is re-posting a comment someone else made so their followers can see it too.

Anyone catch Jon Stewart's report about Twittering Congressmen?  It's pretty funny if you've got 5 minutes:

Go to Search at the bottom of your Twitter page. #queryfail is currently a trending topic so you won't even have to search for it.

Otherwise, click this: http://search.twitter.com/search?q=%23queryfail

I'm looking forward to following #queryfail when I get home today.

I find it is not so much about people following you (though that is nice) but about who you are following.

There's also a #querywin thread  =)

today I'm glad to follow the queryfail and query win 'threads'

I agree - about who's going to care what I did today or what I ate for lunch -- but I think it's a good resource for finding out more about editors and agents & publishing

I spend time on it as a reward / motivaton for accomplishing something else that I don't feel like doing    :D

Okay I joined the Twitter craze b/c my fave part of Facebook are the updates.  So, may as well go where it's fairly much about updating.  I cruised this thread and have tried to follow as many of you guys here as I could.  Although I'd normally feel guilty about adding yet another social network thing to my full plate of procastination tools, I have pretty much given up Myspace...so this fills that void.  :hahaha

I'm yet another person who is joining Twitter without a clear idea why (I still haven't even figured out Facebook, really). Peer pressure, I suppose. :) Here's mine: https://twitter.com/carriebp

I'm going through and following every person who has posted on this thread. Feel free to follow me too, or not. I can't promise I'll be interesting.

BTW Do any of the apps allow you to organize one's followers into categories such as "writers" and "friends" or allow you to make a top followers list similar to myspace's top friends?
