I love all the smileys that are available to me. Sometimes I use one.

But there are times I'd like to be able to press a button and hide all of them while I compose a response.

Is that possible? Does that option already exist and I just haven't found it?

Thanks!

Harold,
If you go access your profile settings by simply clicking "Profile" there is a tab on the left side that says "Look and Layout Preferences."  Click this, and then the second option is, "Current Smiley Set."  It is probably set to default.  Change it to No Smilies and your problem should be solved.

Another solution, Harold, is to use the Quick Reply at the bottom of each thread. You can type your answer in there without any smileys showing and click on Preview and/or Post. Doing this allows the smileys to be there if you hit the Reply button, or not to be there if you use the Quick Reply box, so you don't have to change your profile back if you DO want to use smileys.

I'm not seeing that Quick Reply option on my screen, Verla.  Is it only there if we've got our settings done a certain way?  (Not that I personally mind the smileys.  I just wanted to see what you were talking about.)

Open your "Profile."
Click on "Look and Layout Preferences."
At the bottom of that page you will see an option for "Use quick reply on topic display."  Make sure it is set to "show, on by default."

You will be SO happy you set it to ON! It makes quick replies in threads so simple. No changing of screens... just type in the box at the bottom of the thread and click post. (Or preview and then post when you are sure it's the way you want it to look.) Done.

Thanks, Verla. I'm off to explore the Look and Layout Preferences. You've taught me there is more to the system than I realized.
