Which do you consider the funniest picture books ever published?

My top three: The Shrinking of Treehorn by Florence Parry Heide, Spinky Sulks by William Steig, and Horton Hatches the Egg by Dr. Seuss.

I just read two books to 5th graders for character study mini-lessons (to identify how characters change from beginning of story to end) and two that ellicited lots of giggles even at this age were Kevin Henkes' LILLY'S PURPLE PLASTIC PURSE and CHESTER'S WAY.

The Miss Nelson Books and Skippy Jon Jones because of their clever plotting, unexpected endings and how the words and art are so happily married.

And altho it is not a picture book, I love Roald Dahl's The Enormous Crocodile.

Some of Steig's do this too. (His works are a little more profound.)

My second-grader just brought home Doctor DeSoto by William Steig from his school library. I had never read it before and we both thought it was hysterical!

We just read Bark, George tonight--a definite favorite! My students are also crazy about Melanie Watt's books--Chester and Scaredy Squirrel.

I'd have to second (or third) the Scaredy Squirrel.  Just bought that one for my daughter and I don't know who cracked up more, me or her!

My other funny faves are:

Knuffle Bunny
Good Boy, Fergus!
Dog (by Van Fleet)--though, maybe this is more appropriately categorized as a board book
The Monster at the End of this Book
Diary of a Worm

The Monster at the End of this Book (one of my favorite from when I was a kid, and also one my kids' favorites)
The Pigeon Books
Officer Buckle and Gloria

I think the Olivia books are hilarious. But, even though my kids love them, I don't think my kids think the books are as funny as I do.
