Hello all! I just received my first ever acceptance letter! Highlights High Five bought a 12 line poem from me and I'm beyond excited! :) I can't wait to see it in print, and I'm excited to see what the illustrations will look like.

Ev might have to put me in mod :jail but in case you all don't read blogs I wanted to share that I got comp copies in yesterday's mail for High Five for my poem, Tomorrow's Mittens, submitted over 10 yrs ago :faint  Also read Stephanie Shaw's sweet story about laundry day. Brought back sweet memories of when my kiddos were little. Love the hidden pictures and all their regular features, but for the younger set. This is definitely a magazine to target if you write for babies and toddlers. And I'm also writing book reviews for our parish newsletter so another debut. It made me feel like a :goldstar

Congratulations, Vijaya and Stephanie!

That is one long wait, Vijaya. I sold two pieces to them last year, so I'm guessing they won't be published for a while. So happy your piece finally was! You must be so happy!

Oh, YAY! Vijaya and Stephanie!! :drumroll :drumroll  I'm so happy for you both. And I'm especially happy for you, Vijaya, that your poem was finally pubbed after 10 years. (That means there's hope for mine that's also been more than 10 years since acceptance. :crossedfingers)

Also, congrats on your getting to write the book reviews for your parish newsletter, Vijaya! I'm sure your insights will be a blessing to the readers.

Thanks so much for celebrating with me. I'd seen the galleys earlier this year but I forgot so the comp. copies were a delightful surprise.

Starfish, I hope you don't have to wait a decade; you just never know when a piece will fit as they design each issue. So I had to look up the date of acceptance and it's been 13 yrs!

Yay, Vijaya and Stephanie!

Speaking of long waits, I'm waiting on a story that Highlights bought in 2009, so "only" 8 years ago. Guess I'll have to wait another 2 years to see it in print!  :lol4

New!
Thought I'd resurrect this thread and share that I'm excited to have one of my puzzles, "Tic-Tac-Grow," in the September issue of Highlights (p.15).   :running  (They actually made a mistake in the puzzle. So, if you get a chance to see the issue, an additional puzzle for you can be to see if you can figure out the mistake.  :laugh )

Now, I'll encourage any of the rest of you who have magazine joys, to share either here or in the main Kidlit Good News section. I'd love to help you celebrate!  :yup

Congrats, Ev! I'll bet it was a little frustrating to see the error in your puzzle, but good for you in finding a way to turn it around--two puzzles for the price of one! LOL. I'll take a look at a September issue when I have a chance.

I don't have any September news to share, but I had an article, "Ready to Compete," in the August issue of Highlights.

Happy magazine writing, everyone!

Thank you, Mirka and Sara!!  :hug

And congratulations, Sara, on your August article in Highlights!!  :stars3 Was the article about tips for preparing for a competition, about a specific competitor's preparation, or some other aspect of competing?  Just from the title, it sounds like a great topic for kids, since so many kids these days are really into competitions.

Congratulations, Ev and Sara! I will look for your pieces in the Aug and Sept Highlights issues.

After a string of rejections, this has been a lucky year for me so far.

Humpty Dumpty bought 3 build-a-book stories (May/June 2018, July/Aug 2018, November/Dec 2018).

Ladybug bought my revised #ownvoices short story in Aug.

I am hoping the luck continues... I got an invitation last week to revise and resubmit an #ownvoices short story for Highlights, but R&Rs always leave me with  butterflies in my tummy...

Ev, my article was about an inspiring girl who wears a prosthetic arm to play many different sports. It was a very interesting article to research!

:yay Starfish!! Sounds like you've got Humpty Dumpty's build-a-book stories figured out!  Congrats on those and also on the Ladybug story. I've got my fingers crossed for you on the Highlights revision.

Sara, what a great subject for a story! I can well imagine that it's provided inspiration for thousands of children.
