PiBoIdMo 2010

Discussion started on

I'm not doing NaNoWriMo this year. I am going to try out PiBoIdMo, however.  Who else is going to do it?

I'll be there, too!  Last year's challenge was so much fun -- from the great (and inspiring) blog posts to the "chatting" in the comment section.

And I love the idea of taking one month every year to really focus on creating new ideas.  It gets me back in the habit of looking for stories everywhere.

Hey, I haven't done this before so I am a little confused.  It starts the first day of November, but we don't sign up until November?  I am just worried I am missing something, which happens to me really, really often.

I wondered about that too, eeco -- I assumed it was a typo, that we sign up at the end of October (Halloween)?  Hmmmm...

Ellen, I have no idea!  But I'm game to try!  :cheerleader

Eeco, the official sign-up day is Oct 31st, but you can sign up anytime from Oct 31st through the first week of November or so.  (for anyone who forgets on the 31st)

And then when the challenge is finished at the end of the month, you can take a "30-ideas pledge," saying that you've completed the challenge.  (The people that finish the challenge and take the pledge are eligible for prizes.)  But really, even if you don't finish with 30 ideas, the challenge is still worth it, I think.  You end the month with more ideas than you started with, and you have the month-worth of blog posts for inspiration.

Ellen, I enjoyed it last year.  And I have an idea folder "PiBoIdMo 2009" that I check from time to time to see if any of my ideas from the challenge catch my attention.  I have a couple that are now rough drafts.

If anyone is interested, the posts from PiBoIdMo 2009 are still on Tara's blog:  http://taralazar.wordpress.com/2009/11/

Hey guys! Glad you are all excited about PiBoIdMo.

Sheri gave you the clarifiation on sign-up...thanks, Sheri. The kick-off post will be on Halloween and you'll be asked to sign in then through the first week of November. (I give stragglers an opportunity to catch up.) The sign-in is something new I added this year. Last year there was no sign-in, only the "30 ideas" pledge at the end of the month. This year there will be both. You'll need to sign-in AND take the pledge at the end to be eligible for prizes.

I'm hearing from you that sign-up should be opened earlier, so that's a change I'll make for next year. Thanks for the input!

The prizes include feedback from literary agents (Ammi-Joan Paquette, Kelly Sonnack and Joanna Volpe), original sketches by picture book illustrators, jewelry, books, and a few other things I'm working on.

I'm open to hearing other ideas for how the event should be run, so keep the suggestions coming.

I had an overwhelming response to guest blogging requests. In fact, I have more guest bloggers than there are days in November, so I'm ramping up to PiBoIdMo this week. Yesterday I posted a piece by Aussie author Karen Collum.

I updated the page below with an official participant badge and link to a Twitter twibbon if you are interested in using either:

See you soon!

Cheers,
Tara

I have been thinking alot about this and how hard it would be to work toward a picture book every day for a month.  Today I stayed home from work with my sick son.  In between vomit sessions, I jotted down thoughts & ideas- you would not believe how many ideas you can get from a day of watching cartoons!  I am so ready... even changed my profile picture to my badge!

Love your new badge, Shoniker!

I've just added three picture book critiques to the lists of PiBoIdMo prizes. I hope to get more prizes squared away before the weekend.

Day two!  Checking in!  How's everyone doing?  I'm on target, which is not to say any of my ideas are good ones, but they ARE ideas on mini-Post-its stuck to my broken computer.  Talk about inspiration!!   :flowers2
