i've been getting loads of ideas the last three days - piboidmo is great because, knowing you 'have' to come up with an idea that day, you start looking for ideas everywhere

  Ditto Jonnyb

I'm at 7 ideas so far.

I love the daily blog posts = very helpful!  especially today's.

Anyone going to do PB Marathon in February?   I'm going to pick 20 of my 30 to work on for that.

I'm interested but would like to hear from someone who has done it before.  Thoughts? :whip

I'm not going to lie. I'm having more trouble this year. I think because I have so many WIP's, it's hard for me to detach myself and come up with unrelated ideas. The inspiring posts are certainly a huge help!

COMING SOON: Making a Friend*Wordy Birdy Meets Mr. Cougarpants*A Little Chicken*Nugget & Fang, the SEAquel*The Farm that Mac Built & MORE

I'm participating, although over the weekend I've slacked (don't tell Tara!! I'll catch up, I will!) I was five for five through Friday though, and I think a couple of these have promise. And I'm really busy and not in "writing mode" right now (doing too much real-life stuff like running my kids' school's book fair) and I wouldn't even be thinking about writing so I am very GRATEFUL to have something egging me on :)

Thanks Tara!!

I was at a Children's Museum in Michigan this weekend and the ideas where smacking me in the face.  Had to dig through purse to find pen and an old receipt to write them down.  I think I captured about five just watching the kids at play!!

Must find more children's museums this month. . . .

This is my first year being involved as well.   I'm LOVING the daily challenge and I got such a great idea day before yesterday, I can hardly contain my excitement!     It's going to be FANTASTIC to have a bank of ideas at the end of the month.  Tara's daily email blasts with inspirational pieces by published authors is a nice surprise.  I didn't know what to expect ahead of time, but this far exceeds any expectations I had.

Happy brainstorming today, fellow PBers!

Thanks again for doing this, Tara.  Checking in daily and knowing I have to come up with an idea has been a great kick in the pants!  :thankyou

Why do we only do this once a year?  Other than the fact that it takes so much work to organize (hehe Tara)... I would love to have another 'kick in the butt' in the spring.   :snoopy

Jean Reagan hosts a PB writing marathon in February and Paula Yoo hosts NaPiBoWriWee the first week in May. So you can take your ideas and carry them over to those events.

You can also continue an idea-a-day on your own. I believe I read somewhere that it takes 30 days of an activity to form a habit. So by the end of the month, maybe it will be automatic!

Tara, have you participated in either of those activities persoanally?  I am just looking to hear from someone who has.  to get more specific info about what is involved and expected.  I found the website for the PB Writing Marathon but there was not much info (it says more will be up in Dec) and I wasn't sure about the other.  I like having the aacountabilty and someone to check in with :)

Shoniker, here's the rules from Paula Yoo's 2010 NaPiBoWriWeek: http://paulayoo.com/content/natl-picture-book-writing-week-napibowriwee-2010-may-1-7-2010

Yes, you have to check in with Paula daily.

I have not done the February marathon. I assume you have to check in every once in a while, too.

Shoniker --

Why not start a thread on Verla's - for a daily challenge - for Picture Books?

Then you'll have the challenge you want and lots of folks will join you :)

Our own Salina Yoon is up today! (As a side note, Salina, I tried emailing you a few times this morning with your link but your email keeps bouncing. Can't send a private message to you here, either. The internet does not like me today.)

Check out where Salina gets her ideas--and where she buries the unused ones! LOL!

Hi Tara!  Sorry you were having trouble emailing me! Very strange. But I saw it up this morning! I hate reading anything I wrote,... so I'll skip that part,... but YAY for my books being posted! Thanks so much for including me. It's a HUGE honor!  :love

I will do that right after PiBoIdMo is over.  I LOVE it! :love

Well, it's day 23 and my brain feels officially warmed up now. Yay!

The idea that cracks me up the most is #16, called "Annoying Pelican at the Ballet". That was a game my husband and daughter were playing. While my daughter was performing a ballet, annoying pelican kept speaking loudly and bothering the other puppets around him, repeatedly asking if anyone wanted more popcorn. I may use it for something or I may not, but man, I love those funny moments.

Hope everyone else is doing well with ideas! We're almost at the finish line. Don't let all that triptophan slow you down!  :turkey

(Great post, Salina!  :applause )

It's been great, hasn't it? I am visualizing a ballet-dancing pelican now! Complete with pink tutu!

My favourite idea to date is: If Fish Could Talk, and Trees Could Walk. Although it's begging to be a rhymer and I'm scared of rhymers.

#59 - November 23, 2010, 11:22 AM

That sounds like a good one, Franziska! Takes my imagination to many fun places.

We have a pet fish. I wonder what he'd say? Maybe ask for a bigger bowl? :)
