Hi guys,

I am currently developing an ABC picture book manuscript.
Do you think I should submit the book dummy when I am submitting to publishers or would 2 - 3 illustrations suffice ?

Looking forward to your feedback !

Stacebee, it depends on the guidelines and if you are submitting to editors, agents, or art directors. If you have a CWIM, it usually indicates the author/illustrator guidelines as well as writer's guidelines. A lot of agents have gone to a webform for their submission and with that, they ask for your website. Some illustrators don't make a physical dummy, but have a webpage dedicated solely to their digital book dummy. (This may be the way things go in the future). I haven't posted this link in quite awhile, but it's somewhat helpful as lists many publishers with links to their websites where your can peruse their catalogues and check out their submission guidelines. http://www.signaleader.com/

If you have a book dummy prepared, it is the best way to submit because if your work is requested and they like what they see, they will ask for an entire dummy, as long as you are an illustrator and not a writer who wants to show your book in format. (But I believe you are as I saw your site once when you listed it in a post).

ETA, I just went back and found it. Your work is vibrant and quite nice. Good luck with your submissions!

Hey Lyon - yes I am , I forgot to say that!

Cynthia - thanks so much for the feedback ! It makes sense to create the dummy one time.

Have a good week !
