Animal Spirit Guides

Discussion started on

Can anyone name some novels that include animal spirit guides in the storylines? It's a cinch to find nonfiction books on spirit guides, but I'd like some fairly recent YA (or outstanding must-read older novels) to see how authors use animal spirit guides in fiction. Thank you!

Jeri Smith-Ready's Aspect of the Crow series isn't sold as YA, but it may work

I can't come up with a specific Charle de Lint book to suggest, but I know I've come across spirit guides in several of his books and his short stories.

Sigh... My unpublished YA tentatively titled Chills. Well, maybe if someone makes spirit guides as hot as vampires, I'll be in a good spot.
