If anyone here has had a picture book optioned and is willing to share details, could you pm me?  I have an option and purchase agreement offer on the table, and I need to know more about what the standards are.  Thanks.  (I don't have an agent for this book, so I have to do it all myself.)  They want to make the book into an full length feature animated film.

Thanks, guys!  It's for an out-of-print picture book too.  (So there's always hope.) But it may not happen unless I can get some help on how to negotiate this contract.

Again, one of those people who don't anything, and again, huge congrats, but if I were you, I would seriously consider getting an agent to help me through this transaction alone. (Or use this transaction to secure an agent, if you're interested in doing that.) Of course, make sure the agent/agency has experience optioning rights.

Crossing my fingers for you!

Are you a member of SCBWI? I've heard they have limited resources for something like this. Congrats on the offer! Hope it all works out.

What wonderful and exciting news! I have no advice, but I'll bet JenKlein would, given her experience in the film industry.

AMAZING NEWS!

I wish I had advice to help you beyond going to SCBWI or Authors Guild. Someone there should be able to point you in the right direction.
Please keep us posted and good luck in the process of making this happen.

Congratulations, Betsy, that's great!

I've heard that some agents would be willing to negotiate a contract for an offer like this on an individual basis, though I wouldn't know who to direct you to. Might not hurt to email an agent or two that you've heard of or respect and just ask them if they'd be willing to do that.
