I need a cool, urban slangish way of saying "That's an awesome idea."  Any thoughts?

Can you give us more context? The two things that come to mind are: word, and awesome sauce. ;)

Something that pops in to my mind is the word, "sick." Doesn't work well for a very young age though.

The character is an African American jazz musician who's saying, "Great idea" or "Awesome idea."  He's a cool dude, but I can't find the right expression.  Yes, it's for younger kids.

The jazz musicians I've known still use old time jazz lingo. What about "That knocks me out" or maybe more contemporary, "That's legit"?

Thanks, Cassandra.  But it's got to work for five-year-olds.

Maybe there isn't one. (Sigh!)

  Hey Betsy,
I worked in an inner city school until last year. Mostly the little guys just repeat what the older kids say. Some that come to mind are:

Sweet!  (of course if they've lost their front teeth it may sound like "Thweet", hah!
   Cool!
a big one is "That's bad!"
   Awesome!
a popular saying is "That's extreme!"
   That rocks!

I'll email my teacher friends and see if I can get some more.

I posted your request on FB. Friends are responding:

"That's wicked"
"That's tight"
"That's phat"
"Smooth"
 and "Crazy" is really popular

 More later.

Right on.

This isn't a new saying, but it's definitely urban.

     "Good that"  means good idea.

Actually I think "Right on" might be less urban and more "hippie" from the 70's.

That's cool, fool.
Well, I was thinking of the jazzy musical way these dudes communicate. DH was one in his youth, though not African American.

How about "That's a jazzy idea!"   ( I think used that way it might be considered slang, but not sure and it's a fun word for 5 year olds and sort of fits your character)

How about "slick"?

This is probably too wordy, but "I'm down with that!" means I like your idea.

I have to add "copesetic" -- meaning everything is cool, it's a good fit. -- just because it is a jazz word, not because it really works for most five year olds.

A couple really slangish ways of saying that is:
TRUE DAT!
THAT'S THE BUSINESS!
These are very modern slang words and are used by older kids.

Younger children would probably be more familiar with:
THAT'S SO COOOOOL, DUDE!
TIGHT!
SICK! is a very common word too.
