Would most people in the US be familiar with this expression? I have seen a few people use it on the blueboards, but is it widely known? (It expresses that something angers or annoys you.)
Thanks so much!

Yay. You guys rock. Thanks so much. (It seems I can move forward with this, but would appreciate if other regions chime in too over time.)

I know it here in DC but I'll admit I haven't heard anyone use it in some time. I'd hop on twitter or facebook and ask people to ask the kids in your age range if they know it.  I used, what I thought was, a common phrase today with my 12 year old and had to explain it to her... Geez I must be getting old...

Odd Animal ABC's (Blue Manatee, 4-2-19)
She Leads: The Elephant Matriarch (Familius, Spring 2020)

Virginia/DC, New York, Ohio, Michigan, Maine, Pennsylvannia...at least parts of each state use it, though they probably know what it means if it isn't used in a region of a state.

I think the expression is more widely known than it isn't, stateside. Difference would enter in whether a region uses it.

It's a common expression in California, and Florida. I wonder where it originated? Funny when you think about it.

Yes, WI and OH. Although lots of sources say the meaning "is disputed," here's one version of the phrase's origin:  http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/get-your-goat.html

Yes, I know it in PA, but it's something my 77-year-old mother would use than my 15-year-old son. I don't know if he even knows what it means.

Thanks everyone. These boards are the best. I had a submission deadline for a competition and have managed to send off my entry in time, thanks to a "little" help from you BBers.

The character saying "gets my goat" was a cranky cat.

Another yes from New England! I remember hearing that the phrase may have originated from horse racing or cattle herding. To me it just means: something bugs me.
