Oh my gosh, Diana, first AND second place! I'm not surprised -- I love both of those poems!

I just found out that I won the runner-up award for non-fiction. Yay! What a wonderful surprise.

My article was "A Man Cloth'd in Goat-Skins" in Cricket's January 2012 issue, about an 18th-century castaway named Alexander Selkirk.

Congratulations to Katy and Diana and all of the other winners!

Congratulations!! Selkirk's island is nearish me... I'm in Chile. He's the basis for Robinson Crusoe, right? Or is that a different one?

Thanks, everyone! Franzilla, you're right. Selkirk spent four years alone on an island 400 miles west of Chile, and people think he was the model for Robinson Crusoe. Or one of them, anyway. There were other castaways that probably influenced Daniel Defoe too.

So, I just noticed that they announced in May last year, but this year it's supposed to be August?

Anybody get a call? I haven't heard a peep.

Good luck to all who entered!

I entered, but no, I haven't gotten a call. I keep checking the site to see the announcement.

You won last year, right, Diana? That cute poem about opposites, if I remember correctly?

I did, Sara. It was exciting. Some other blueboarders won in other categories, as well.

Always fun to wait on news, isn't it?

Best of luck!

To you, too!

How did you find out last year, Diana? Did they call? Send a letter?

Thanks, Sara!

I received a phone call last year. It was early May and then the official notice went up about a week or two later (though she said I was free to share right away).

Perhaps they moved it to August to give themselves more time to consider the entries.

Just wanted to let everyone know, I ended up emailing and received the response today that the winners have NOT been notified yet. I was told that the judges are running a bit late this year.

So we can all continue crossing fingers!

Looks like I won for poetry again! I can't believe it!

I got a message from the SCBWI award organizer on Tuesday but only saw it yesterday.

The poem that won is called "Ocean Beach". I wrote it after visiting the beach with my kids. It was accepted in 2011.

The official results are not up yet. I suppose they might go up next week.

Thanks, Sara!!! :)

By the way, my 9-year-old daughter just peeked over my shoulder and said, "Oooh! That's cute!"--about your avatar.

Thanks! My daughter drew that when she was about six, and I added some color. I love it so much that I've never changed my avatar!
