I love hearing about other people's processes too. Feel free to bounce ideas off me as you plan/structure/write your novel.

Hi, all, and happy writing!

Didn't get those pages written yesterday. Ended up revising a previous scene instead. Oh, well. This is why it always takes me a year to finish a first draft. Moving on today.

Checking in.

Melissa, those pages will get written! Meanwhile, the previous scene is much better.

:autumn Finishing up loose ends of older PB's while thinking about ideas for new ones for PiBoIdMo. I'm also gathering outline charts for NaMoRiMo--anyone else doing it? I plan to have my novel outline finished before November so in between NaMoing, I can jot down PB ideas on the go. :goldstar

Happy Writing, Cali

I ended up going backward instead of forward again yesterday, but I figured out a problem that's been tugging at the back of my mind. The upshot is I'm going to keep revising instead of moving on, at least for today. My goal is to bang through the global changes and not get bogged down in trying to make every sentence perfect.

Cali--You are a brave brave person to be doing both PiBoIdMo and NaNoWriMo in the same month. :pompoms

Darshana--Missed days happen. All my best to you.

JFriday and Darshana--Thanks!

I feel like I'm living in some kind of weird writing comedy lately. I keep saying, "Here's what I'm going to do today" and then, a few hours later, realizing that I did the opposite. I said I was going to make some global changes and not get bogged down in details; then I went and got bogged down in details. Now my whole first chapter is a mess. I don't know anymore what I want in there and what I don't.

Goal for the day: Print out all the recent versions of my first chapter. Decide what needs to be in there and what doesn't. Take a stab at rewriting the first chapter.

Happy writing!

I'm here.

Melissa, I have so been where you are. I've revised until it's a mess and it was better before I did anything. But press on; it does clean itself up, even if you need to step away for a day or two and not consciously think about it. Things will fall into place, they really will.

JFriday--Thanks. I have a tendency to get stuck in my first chapter, so I was a little worried the other day. But since then I've revised again and moved on. It ain't perfect, but it's a solid foundation for the draft, which is all it needs to be at this point. Hope your writing is going great.

Tori--Hi, and happy writing!

Good morning, MelissaK and anyone else!
I wrote an absolutely horrible first draft of a pb yesterday, and today I'm going to focus on "jacket flap copy" to try to hone in on what's going on.
Maybe :coffee3 will help.
Melissa, I hope you have some successes to celebrate today as you continue on your newly-found foundation! :writing3

Checking in. Woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't fall back asleep, so I figured I would make it productive. Close to wrapping up another revision of the same PB from before, need to send it out today for another round of critiques. For better or worse the last round resulted in un-unified feedback.

Hope you all had a good Halloween! I gave out books along with candy and it was a hit!  :cloud9

Checking in. Our Halloween was a lot of fun. Only problem is that now my 22-month-old knows what candy is. :sadcry  I guess we had to let the cat out of the bag sometime. Darshana, your book idea is awesome. I may steal that next year.

Darshana, that was a great idea! I gave out small bags of pretzels with monster faces on the bag, and the little boys loved them. Older kids got candy because I figured they wouldn't like only getting a few tiny pretzels (they were pre-bagged). Parents liked the pretzels!

Oh, Melissa, the slippery slope. Candy and ice cream and cookies and cakes...

Tori, aren't all first drafts horrible? Even the ones we think are marvelous??

I'm not ready to start another novel so I decided to sign up for PiBoIdMo. Finding a notebook for ideas today.

Yeah JFriday!
Funny I'm already behind on PiBoIdMo. Thankfully, all you need is a really good day to catch up.

Melissa - do go ahead and steal the book idea. It went pretty well. I posted some pics on my FB page.

I just sent my PB revision out to my local CPs for critique.

My little blue notebook already has one idea in it. Darshana, you'll have no problem catching up. Just take a long shower - why is it that ideas come in the shower?

Actually mine came when I was walking the dog. In the woods. Through the leaves.

Happy writing day everyone!

JFriday--Are there dogs, woods, or leaves in your PB idea? All three are popular topics with my little guy.

Darshana (and JFriday, and everyone else doing PiBoIdMo)-- :pompoms

I'm checking in.

Melissa - there's going to be a coyote, but that's as far as I've gotten.

Have to come up with 2 ideas today...

And once again someone said I have a MG voice rather than a YA. So I've decided to take my latest story and rewrite it as a MG. It actually won't take much to change it, so I think they're right...

Happy writing, everyone!

Am I the only insomniac here? Just curious. I was up for 20 hours, slept 6, and here I am.  :shocked It's not unusual for me to sleep starting at 4am!
