Can I join you all? I'm trying to get in an hour or two of writing before my baby wakes up every day. Looks like I'm a little late to be getting started, but that pillow was really comfortable this morning.

Aaaaah, a new fellow-toiler! Welcome, Melissa! How well I remember those baby days, though they are long past. It was so nice to log on and find AnneB already here, too! I hope MVP, our night owl, had a productive session. Keeping fingers crossed, here (and, wow, is it ever hard to type this way!)
Happy writing, all!

Welcome, Melissa K! How old is your little one? I hope your baby sleeps long and well for you, and gives you a nice chunk of writing time in the mornings. Nothing more frustrating than getting up early to have time of your own before a baby wakes up, only to have the baby wake up ahead of schedule. Ask me how I know!  :grin3  :babygirl

I wish all you early risers some peaceful sleep while I  :typing. Good luck with your morning sessions!

Absolutely double ditto for all the writing moms! As a writing grandma, I sometimes have that concern, but only on an infrequent basis (the Adorables and the Sleepovers and the Babysitting!), and my hat is off to all of you who do it every single day  :yourock....I know you already do treasure these moments   :star2 -- they fly before we know it...
Keep the writing torch burning...

Thanks for the warm welcome!

My little guy just had his first birthday a couple of weeks ago. He was a terrible sleeper for a long time, but now he's pretty good. He almost always wakes up once (and only once) per night between 4:30 and 5:30 a.m. If I nurse him a bit, he goes back to sleep for two hours or so. I've gotten into the habit of going to bed early and just getting up to at 4:30 or whenever. It's actually a good schedule for me.

Anybody else here this morning? I'm off to write...

I'm here, but not writing. Have to check the boards I mod and then help shovel snow. Fortunately it's only an inch or so.

I'm here, too, but no snow to shovel (after ten years in MN!), just frost. The writing will have to wait, however, since we have friends visiting and I must do the mundane chore of cooking breakfast, instead of cooking up a plot. I can write later today, after they leave!
Melissa K, what a precious morning time you have! AnneB, thank you for your mod-ly chores to keep us all writing!

Had a bit of a rough night, so I'm getting started late today. I hope the snow shoveling, breakfast cooking, and muse summoning went well yesterday.

I was up early and made a pot of tea, including an extra teabag so it would be strong enough to get me going. No writing until the afternoon for me: three people in the house were rushing off to outside jobs. One son is in town for a 3-week consulting gig :yay but because of the below-zero temps, I drove him to the bus stop. The other, who lives here for a few more months, had the early shift at the bookstore this a.m. so he was off by 6:30. DH is getting ready to leave for work now and then things will calm down. Starting the day job now; writing this afternoon :crossedfingers .

No, writing DEFINITELY this afternoon.

Darshana, I didn't drink coffee until I had my second child.  I never thought I'd become a coffee drinker. But when a baby was keeping me up at night and a toddler was keeping me up by day, coffee was all that kept my eyes open. Now I'm an addict.

It was a good day. I wasn't thrilled when the alarm went off at 5:00 this morning, but I had a productive writing session in the morning. My kids adjusted easily to going back to daycare, I had a pleasant first day back at work, the evening flowed smoothly, and all in all I'm pleased with how I balanced my responsibilities today. 2015 is off to a good start. Now I just have to replicate it another 360 times.  ::-)

Hope all of you had productive days too!

Good Morning MVP.
Hmm .. maybe coffee would've helped when my girls were at that age.
I kind of don't want to start drinking coffee because I don't want to get addicted, but I love the idea of drinking something warm to introduce as part of the 5am routine. Any suggestions that are totally calorie or caffeine ladened? I do like the occasional latte or hot chocolate but every morning probably wouldn't be a good thing.

I'm off to writing, well for at least twenty minutes. Tuesdays are my dinner days so I have to prep it in the morning and have breakfast ready by 6am for the kiddos.

Happy Writing!

I missed this morning, sadly, and now I've got the day job to deal with.

Darshana, I can recommend peppermint tea. I can't drink much caffeine because I'm still breastfeeding my baby. I was very much a coffee drinker before I decided to be a mom, but now I restrict myself to one cup of decaf per day. Then it's on to the peppermint tea, which is hot and tasty even if it's not :coffee3

Also, green tea doesn't have much caffeine but is nice and warm in the morning. Two cautions: if green tea's steeped for longer than 3 minutes, it gets bitter, and it needs hot but not boiling water. 175 degrees is optimal, or let boiling water sit in the cup for a couple of minutes. I bought a very serious cooking thermometer this past autumn, guaranteed to stay calibrated for eons, and I'm shocked, shocked how quickly boiling water cools to 195 degrees (for oolong) and 175 (for green).

As you can see, there's a reason my avatars are teacups/tea  :coffee3 !

eta: [:coffee3 also works for hot chocolate]

My favorite healthy option is celestial seasonings sweet coconut chai. It's decaf and tastes good without sugar (though I'd like it with sugar even better, if I let myself go there.)

I've been up since 6 but this won't be a writing day, alas. Maybe an hour this afternoon if I can figure out something to feed three hungry men that doesn't require a ton of prep time AND that I can put in the crockpot.

I did wake up at ~5am this morning and worked on my PB revision for 30 minutes and had a cup of Lemon Rose Tea.  :coffee3
Thanks everyone for the tea suggestions! Hopefully, having this cup of tea in the morning will help solidify the habit of waking up at 5am.
I am trying to stay offline until I get my writing done, but then I forget to check-in here when I was done.

Melissa - sorry to hear you didn't sleep well. i hate it when that happens.
AnneB - hope you were able to carve out some writing time.
Tori - hi!

Good morning, everybody! I was really hoping the school district would decide it was cold enough outside to delay our start time, but no such luck. So I had a short writing session, but I did what I could. Off to the day job now. Hope y'all are staying warm! Happy writing!

That tea does sound good, Darshana, but I can't give up my :coffee3 yet... :) MVP, I hope your classroom is warmer than the outside, and Melissa, may you wake up refreshed and ready to scribble a bit!  :typing AnneB, the Paul Hornung stew is great for writers!
I got some good work done on some pbs yesterday and hope to do more today.
Happy writing, fellow dream-makers!

Stay warm Melissa. What grade do you teach?
Tori - way to go.
Yeah I got up again this morning at 5am, I was actually excited. I spent 40mins thinking about how to revise the beginning of my PB. I ended up adding 2 new lines. Amazing how much 'thinking' time you have to spend, though part of the thinking did include some free-write to help get the juices flowing.
