I'm working on something about Olympic athletes and wondering which -- if any -- Olympic athletes your kids know by name. Ask them, and let me know who they come up with (can be historic or present-day). Also, let me know how old your children are. Thanks!

My kids are 14 and 15. The first Olympian they could name was Michael Phelps - and neither of them is a swimmer.

My eleven-year-old said: "I don't know any."

I'll quiz the 14-year-old when he gets home from school.

I don't have kids old enough to ask this to, but I remember when I was little. My friends and I always knew the names of every gymnast on the olympic team.  It was the same with ice skating.  However,  it is all about time frame.  I still remember Kerri Strugg and her amazing one-footed land off the vault.  I would imagine, if kids are old enough, they remember Shawn Johnson.  Just an idea.

And with all of his success, definitely Michael Phelps!

I'm guessing a lot would know Mohammed Ali's name - though they might not associate him with the Olympics. And most would know members of the Dream Team: Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, etc.

My sixteen year old says Michael Phelps and Apollo Ono. He said he might recognize some other names if he saw them, but
those were the only two that came to mind.

Come people--the fastest man on earth! Usain Bolt  :taunt:

My guys (ages 7-16) also knew Michael Phelps.  I was shocked they didn't remember any of the soccer players (Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, Tim Howard, Hope Solo, Abby Wambach) and they didn't remember Apollo Ono. We watch a ton of soccer (but not much US soccer) so it was surprising that they didn't think of them. Of course, they are 1/2 Jamaican so that might explain the love of Bolt.

Thanks, everyone. This is so helpful! Usain Bolt is a good one I hadn't thought of. What a great name!
