I managed to snag an ARC of Mike Jung's GEEKS, GIRLS, AND SECRET IDENTITIES and just read it. What fantastic fun! I knew Mike had a wacky, wild sense of humor, but to sustain it for a whole book, and pull off some genuinely touching scenes, too? Wow! Boys and girls both are going to love this one. Can't wait to see the finished illustrations when the book comes out in October. Has anyone else had a chance to read it?

It is definitely worth the wait, Minions! If any spoilerish discussion comes up, I'll be sure to be very careful with it.

Just added my review on Goodreads:

I ADORE this book! Mike Jung's debut middle grade sci-fi novel is a treat--full of adventure, giant robots, and lines that made me laugh out loud. At the helm is main character Vincent Wu--the lovable, self-deprecating fan of Captain Stupendous, the local spandex-clad superhero who's suddenly turned soft. I loved Polly's character, as well--the object of Vincent's sweet middle grade crush (just don't tell Vincent I said that...). She's strong and opinionated and sets the record straight on what makes a real super hero.

As an elementary school librarian, I get requests all the time from girls who want to read a book with a bit of romance, and this one fits the bill for this age group--innocent infatuation without being mushy. Although Vincent would never admit this in a million years, boys will enjoy this plot line, as well. I'll also hand this book to boys for the superhero, swashbuckling action, which Polly would say is just as much for girl readers as it is for the boys.

The only drawback to this book is that it isn't out until October, so my students will have to listen to me talking it up for a whole month before they can check it out!

I just read this book :)

Mike, thanks for writing such an awesome middle grade book. This hits all the notes, especially for reluctant readers--which makes you a shining star in my librarianly eyes.

My son (10) just checked this out from the library today.  He's not at all a reluctant reader, but he started chuckling just from the flap copy...though he wasn't too sure about the girl parts ;)
