Hey all you Pre-K and Early Elementary Teachers! I need your help. When you're teaching Days of the Week to your students, which day do you start on? Sunday or Monday?
Thanks in advance for your answer!
 :thankyou

I thought so too, Larissa. But a little boy I know came home from preschool singing a Days of the Week song that started with Monday. So I'm kind of taking a poll here. And it does have literary implications! :whistle

The song I teach my Pre-K class starts with Sunday.  My kindergartner sings one to the Addams Family theme that also starts with Sunday. HTH!  (Sidenote, I LOVE books that include the days of the week!)

You can blame Greg and Steve for the whole Monday debacle. I sing a Sunday version, too.  :taz:

Jean - My daughter learned a song in Pre-K and a different one in Kindergarten. They both started with Sunday.

This has always confused me. I don't get how the week can start with Sunday. To begin with, the weekend is the week-END, of which Sunday is a part. Second, isn't Sunday the day God was supposed to have taken a bit of a breather from all the making world stuff? (I'm not religious, as you can probably tell.)

So can anyone tell me what good reason there is for starting with Sunday as the first day of the week other than that it goes particularly well with the Addams Family tune? (Which it does - I love that song for learning days of the week.)

It's how the calendar is set up. Good points though, who put Sunday first on the calendar?  :)

Franzilla, I'm not very knowledgeable about this, but I think Saturday is the day of rest.

No evidence to support this, but Sunday, God's day, and first day of the week is most important, so God's day comes first?

Hmm...an interesting concept to research!

What Jenna said is the tradition and explanation I grew up with. Jews observe Saturday as the Sabbath. So do Seventh Day Adventists, a Christian denomination.
