Exam Dilemma

Discussion started on

A question was asked of me last night. Do you correct, mark or grade exams? Overt here, a teacher marks the exams and the grade is given by an examining board. Thanks

It depends. At the high school level some courses have state-sponsored EOC (End of course) tests which are graded by machine in Raleigh (state capitol), like an SAT or such. Other classes have teacher-made finals which are graded by the teacher (and in the South we say graded).

It has always been "graded" for me (I'm a professor).

Well, from what I remember as a child, my father spent days in the loft in the summer holidays, "correcting" exam papers. But he never mentioned grading them. I don't think that what was part of his job. This is just a curiosity, but I find it intriguing the differences depending on where you are.
