Do preschoolers know how to play tic-tac-toe? It's been a while since my "baby" was a preschooler!  :hahaha

Thanks!

Both of my preschooler and kindergartener do. Though they often try to tweak the rules, depending on how the game is going.  :)  I would imagine most preschoolers are familiar with tic-tac-toe.

I'm a preschool teacher and I have played with older four year olds, and five year olds.  The actual concept of the game really is for the older set, though younger kids may "play" thinking they get  it    :)   I guess it's like anything.  They're ready when they're ready.

So they're playing the game, but are they "getting" the concept of blocking the other player or are they simply making their mark in an available spot?

Mine definitely played in preschool (my youngest pair even before that, as soon as they could draw) -- but just liked to put their X or O wherever they felt like it. As they got older, I'd ask, um, do you REALLY want to put it there?

Then they got a little older and I just would win the game. Life lesson.  :snork

If you read this study http://www.nctm.org/uploadedFiles/Lessons_and_Resources/tcm2008-05-523a.pdf

25% of 4-year-olds understood blocking. None could plan ahead. (bottom of the second page)
