Writing an article for Saga (huge circulation over-50s mag in the UK) about books to share with your grandchildren. I'm after picture books that feature grandparents and why/how they're particularly special.

The first few I thought of are the Lollipop and Grandpa series; Penguin & Pinecone; Grandpa Green...

Which are your favourites and why?

PS Please feel free to plug your own books if you have any grandparent-featuring ones!!

Max and Ruby? It's not the main focus, but Grandma plays a big part...

I like "My Dadima Wears a Sari".
While the focus of the book isn't on the grandmother you get to the special relationship between the grandmother and granddaughter.

There is a very cute counting book called TWO AT THE ZOO where the Grandpa takes a little boy to the zoo. My nephews love that one.

I like 'The Rusty, Trusty Tractor' by Joy Cowley

Also, My MeeGenius picture e-book Right 'This Instant' features a special grandpa/grandson relationship. Eli and Grandpa both teach each other about life in their own way.

Is it me or do there seem to be more grandpa books than grandma books?

These are all great. Some I haven't read but am looking forward to getting!

I'm just here to say how cute and lovely your avatar is, Siski! So well painted. I went to read your thread and noticed you mentioned P&P! You are such a die-hard fan. I should pay you! But seriously, GREAT painting!!! You are improving by leaps and bounds every time I see a new avatar!  :paint

Oh... I forgot to add something to this thread! Silly me.

The Napping House, by Audrey and Don Wood. The granny snores through most of it,... but she's still one of the stars of the book! There's something so special and comforting about napping with your granny!

How about THE WEDNESDAY SURPRISE by Eve Bunting? I don't want to spoil the surprise in case some people haven't read it, but it's an unusual book about a grandmother and granddaughter.

Thank you! What a great list. Can't wait for grandparents to get hold of some of these gems!

Salina, thank you for the compliment on my avatar! Even I can see that I am getting better! Very satisfying.

As for P&P, well, hurry up and get another heartstring-pulling book out so I can stop having on about that one! I know there are some in the works! Get to it!

I hope I'm not mentioning one already on the list, but I love "Grandpa for Sale" by Dotti Enderle and Vicki Sansum. Great for funny way of showing how much we should "value" our loved ones. And the illustrations by Kyle Gentry are adorable.

How about- What Grandmas Do Best/What Grandpas Do Best by Laura Numeroff(author of the If You Give a Mouse...series). I bought it for my inlaws to keep at their house. What's really neat about it is you read through about the Grandmas, and then flip the book upside down and read about what Grandpas do best...or vice versa!  :)

I just read "How to Babysit A Grandpa" and it was sweet & funny!
