For all you craft-bookies out there (I have a history of being afraid to read them), have you come across any craft books (or academic articles) that talk about the pros and cons of prologues, their legitimate uses, etc.? Am writing a paper for my MFA on prologues in children's lit and having trouble finding sources.  Thanks in advance!

I can't remember if it's James Scott Bell or Donald Maass who talks about prologues, but I know one of their craft books touches on this. Maybe someone else remembers?

Tween novel and picture book author

Writing Irresistible Kidlit by Mary Kole talks about them. She's mostly on the "don't do it" side of the fence, but allows for a (Very) few exceptions.
