Poems in prose manuscripts,

Discussion started on

New!
I'm presently working on a middle grade, and I have poems that occasionally break between it. Is the poetry also double spaced like the rest of the manuscript?

I don't know if there's a rule for this - so take what I say with a grain of salt!!  What I'd do is keep the lines of the poem double-spaced, but either indented on both margins or italicized.

The poems should be formatted as you would if they were separate. Single spacing is most common. The extra tab in for the entire poem as a block of text also makes sense.

What Debbie said sounds good to me (but really, I think as long as everything is clear and easy to follow, you're okay...).  ::-)
