Hey all! I'm participating in my first portfolio showcase at the SCBWI NY conference and have a question about dummy books. Do people usually display their dummy books full-sized with their portfolio? It feels like a full-size dummy could be overwhelming next to a portfolio, but I'm definitely new and have no idea how this usually goes. Thanks!

It's perfectly fine to include your dummy book with your portfolio but it should not be full sized. It should be more like postcard size.

I'm going to disagree and say I'm happy to see a full-size dummy. Some people like to work at that size when putting a dummy together. You shouldn't have to reduce it.

And I will be looking at portfolios at that conference. I'm an independent editor, so don't get your hopes up too high, but I'll be looking.

Thanks for the input Harold. As I expected, there is some variation in what people present. I'll just do whatever feels right when the time comes. I appreciate the feedback either way.

My advice is to make sure the dummy is within the size constraints of the display requirements of the event. Other than that, it can be 100% or smaller.
