Dear All,

I wrote some short stories and I want to send them to publishers, can you help me draft a query letter. I ready many query letters samples but they were more related to novels.

Awaiting your feedback.

Hi. Mohamed.

I haven't submitted short stories to magazines for children.

When I submitted short stories to magazines for adults, I submitted the story, along with a cover letter (not a query letter). The cover letter was a short business-style letter, something like this:

[my address]

[magazine address]

[date]

Dear [editor's name or name of publication]:

I have enclosed my 800-word short story, "Bringing Home the Prize," for your consideration.

Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,

[signature]
[my typed name]
Enclosures: 4 pages and SASE

******

The SASE is a stamped and self-addressed envelope.

I have also written a cover letter for short stories. I may include a brief synopsis, especially if I'm writing for a themed issue. This shows how the story fits the theme. I may also include a short bio. This depends a lot on what the magazine's website says about cover letters.

Some do ask for queries. In that case, I keep the pitch short. Consider the length of a pitch for a novel compared to the length of the novel. The pitch shouldn't contain more words than the story.

Good luck.
