Hi,
Which sandwich do you think is more popular with kids aged say 4-8? Grilled cheese or PBJ?
I don't think many kids outside the united states eat PBJ sandwiches so it would depend on the location. nevertheless what would be your choice based on the kids you know?

It's my iPad making the spelling mistakes, not I!

PBJ. Sweet trumps savory with kids if given a choice. Any kids I've known and do know, anyway.

I HATED PBJ. Liked liver and artichokes and spinach and other stuff that wigged kids out, but H-A-T-E-D PBJ sandwiches.

My kids are vegetarians, and we are so happy that these two kid classics are meat-free!

One of my kids is a PBJ girl and one is grilled cheese. Grilled cheese is for home or the school caf-- not for picnics. PBJ is for the beach but not for some school lunches.

That may not help! You need more votes!

Grilled cheese.  Many schools around here are nut-free and there's a lot less exposure to peanut better sandwiches.

My kids aren't crazy about PB&Js. They like peanut butter (with apples, for instance) and prefer jelly sandwiches. My son doesn't like cheese (and he's GF), but my girls love grilled cheese -- at home, school or when we're at a restaurant. So to please all 4 of mine....jelly sandwiches.

However, if we can get fancy, yes to BLTs or turkey clubs.  :grin3

Jelly/cream cheese and grilled cheese were favorites 99% of the time, but on a cold snowy day PBJ (chunky peanut butter) and a mug of hot cocoa were always requested. :yippee

PBJ here. They never ask for grilled cheese.

Looks like grilled cheese is winning here...I'll hold out for a few more replies if I can get them :-)

It's my iPad making the spelling mistakes, not I!

My nephews (5 and 6) would definitely say grilled cheese.

Grilled cheese by a landslide here. My kids will do anything for a grilled cheese sandwich. PBJs they only eat if they have to.

Mine will eat PB&J at a friends, but don't ask for them. My son will eat open faced PB on toast or PB and honey on toast. Both will eat grilled cheese, but only with certain kinds of cheese (American, not cheddar!)

Someone above made the good point that many schools are nut free, so it depends on where your story is set.

Is this for a school lunch? If so, it would be neither, as PB is an allergy issue and grilled cheese is better hot.

But my kids loved both growing up.

Hope that helps! :)

I don't think any of my five kids have ever asked for a grilled cheese sandwich. Some of them would eat them if they were handed them. (Not one of them--he is a true cheese-phobe.)

My kids do love peanut butter and honey (or strawberry jam). We have had some eat that for years. (Hooray! They'll now eat other things!) At our current school, though, we have a pb allergy, and so they aren't permitted on campus. If you don't like the main course for the day in the lunch like, you can alternatively get a "sun butter!" sandwich. Which my kids have eaten, but they don't like (they're soy).

My son *loved* PB (no J). My daughter *loved* grilled cheese...they haven't changed in their tastes, either. ;)

Thank you everyone!!
Grilled cheese it is  :yeah

The sandwich is kind of a star in a story I am pondering. It has to be a a child favorite, something the child is reluctant to give up. Hey, come to think of it even I am reluctant to give up my grilled cheese :-)

Two of my kids like grilled cheese. The other just wants BLTs. Nobody likes PBJs. Packing lunch would be much easier if I could get somebody to eat a PBJ!

Clearly none of you live in my house. My daughter would eat PB&J all day if we let her (It's her go to breakfast/snack food.). Neither of my kids likes melted cheese, except in mac and cheese or on pizza. My son will eat a cold cheese sandwich though. Not my daughter.
