Hi everyone,

I would like to make a list of annual events that relate to writing and illustrating picture books. I'd love to be able to look forward to these events rather than being constantly surprised by them! Although I can make the list on my own, I thought it might be more effective--and more fun--to tap into the wealth of bb knowledge. I hope that the list will include events and resources that come from are useful to writers, artists, and librarians.

To keep the list pertinent to as many people as possible, it would make sense to include (for example) the big, annual SCBWI meetings in NY and LA, but probably not the regional ones (though if you think there should be exceptions, say so).

I have started things off, but already there are holes. Please help!

Picture-book-related events:

January
Caldecott awards announced (Jan? Feb? Is this a set date?)

February
SCBWI NYC conference

March
Bologna Children's Book Fair (is this always in March?)

May
BEA (May, right? Does this have a regular meeting time?)

August
SCBWI LA

Online events:

October
Inktober--http://inktober.com/

November
PiBoIdMo--http://taralazar.com/piboidmo/

Thanks, and I look forward to hearing from you!

Lisa

There's the illustration show at the Society of Illustrators, but I can't remember the date/month.

The two SCBWI conferences change dates (sometimes one month or the other, sometimes a little of both):
Winter conference in NY - Jan/Feb
Summer conference in LA - July/Aug

Read Across America is in March too. This year March 2. Not sure if that one is always the same date, or changes year to year.

The show at the Society of Illustrators opens in November, though you have to submit work to it months in advance.

You might want to check the Highlight's Foundation's website for their workshops, many of which happen annually.

There are a couple of picture-book-related workshops in September and October...

Thanks Debbie--that's a great one to add in.

Keila, I have found some wonderful things on the KidLit411 website, but I'm not seeing list/calendar like this. I'd love to see what they came up with. Do you remember specifically where on the site you saw it (or were you just thinking it's the sort of thing they might have there?)?

:bewildered I will ask around. I remember someone working on a ''list'', thought it was like this one and they were directed to kidlit411. Will see if I can find the post.

Fun list. I did the Picture Book Idea Month in November and came up with some ideas that have potential. Would enjoy seeing your final list.
