I received a rejection from Highlights for Children last week and they included a slip of paper that said they are now accepting submissions electronically. I somehow missed the paper. I'm unable to find anything on their website. Has anybody else heard of this news?

Very interesting. I haven't heard or seen anything about that yet.

Thanks for letting us know.

You're right. They're now using the Submittables website, at least for fiction.

Here's what I have:

Highlights magazine is transitioning to an online submission process, using Submittable.com. Next time you would like to share a fiction manuscript with us, please try submitting it here:   https://highlights.submittable.com/submit. You will be asked to create a password-protected account, then walked through the submission process.

Yay! I wonder if that also applies to High Five? I was about to mail the editor another story.

Oh, wow! I had no idea about this! I'm still waiting for a reply from them on something.

Good to know! Online subs are so much easier. Yay. Thanks for the info.

2019 Books: PRECIOUS BABY &  BEEP! BEEP! SPECIAL DELIVERY & HUGGLE WUGGLE, BEDTIME SNUGGLE
+ more in 2020

Just wanted to mention, in case anyone else is waiting, that my friend got a bear card this week on a sub that went out in December. (I'm still waiting on a sub from January. No word yet.)

ETA: Both subs are poetry. And it doesn't look like they take poems via submittable yet. :( Darn.

Thank you, Savannah and JFriday, for this information.

It's always great when we can sub electronically.

Thank you, Diana, for the extra clarification on poetry. Hopefully, that'll change soon.

Hugs to you about the rejection, Savannah.  :hug

Thanks for posting.  Submittable is SO much easier and greener and cheaper.  I hope it works out for them and that they expand to include nonfiction.    :applause  :broccoli :palmtree :dollar

I'm waiting on a reply to a poem too, subbed December 30.

I hope they're testing the Submittable idea with fiction and will eventually go to it for everything. It's easier and cheaper for the author and saves paper. Double benefit.

Thanks for the link and good luck to those who are waiting.

ETA: I'm still so old-fashioned. I will miss the personal notes and such. Even a hurried little scrawl on a postcard has so much more character than an electronic reply. :sigh   :writing3

Has anyone received anything back from Highlights submittable?  I was discussing this with a friend of mine, if they'd continue writing helpful little notes.  Since the Highlights Foundation is so big on nurturing writers, I thought they might continue that practice.  I guess we shall have to wait and see.   :writing3

I just saw that someone posted in response times--a poetry sub via submittable?! And it was an acceptance (from High Five). I didn't know they permit poems via submittable.

Has anyone heard if this is their official policy now? That would sure be convenient!

Thanks for posting, Diana. I haven't used submittable and am wondering if you can attach more than one poem when you submit or would you do each separately? Thanks!
#25 - July 01, 2015, 07:22 AM

I'm not sure, but I THINK it might be best to post one at a time, since that might make it easier to reject/accept each one. People were discussing this issue in a Cricket magazines thread, too, and I believe that's what everyone decided.

Under the High Five and Hello guidelines it specifically says to submit only one poem or story at a time.

Did your submission stay at Received until you got a response or did it move to In Progress at some point? My first time using Highlights submittable - love it!
