:umm    I submitted a story to HIGHLIGHTS Oct. 8 by snail mail. In contributors' guidelines on the HIGHLIGHTS website it still has only the snail mail address. Maybe they're being selective about which writers they ask to use Submittable. So if I get a rejection with directions to use Submittable, that should be encouraging?

I don't think so, Linda Rae. It's for everyone. Use this link and resubmit your story. That's what I'd do. Good luck!

Just heard back on a fiction sub to High Five, just shy of 3 months. They declined this version but would like to see the ending revised. Yay! I'm excited about the opportunity to revise both for H5 and HL! R&Rs are so nerve-wracking though!

Yay, Starfish! I know what you mean about R&Rs being nerve-wracking. You can do it, though! :)

Thank you guys so much for this link! I submitted a bunch of poems to the Cricket open call and have had a lot rejected so now I can try them out in the appropriate Highlights magazine.

Good luck with your revisions, Starfish -- it's a great vote of confidence to get!

Thank you all for your good luck wishes! I finally have a good revision for High Five. Does anyone know how to send a revision through Submittable? Or would it be a new submission with a comment that it's a revision? (The editor told me to copy my original story at the end of the revision.)

I would create a new sub and add "REQUESTED REVISION" to the title.

Unless she emailed you and you feel like you could just send it back to her in a direct email.

I just checked Submittable and saw that High Five accepted my revision! Yay! But the acceptance letter states to click a link to confirm acceptance. The link isn't there - or at least I don't see it. Has anyone else had this problem? Not sure what to do. Any advice?

I also haven't gotten the acceptance email from Submittable yet. (H5 just accepted my story a couple of hours ago) Not sure if there is any correlation.

Yay, Starfish! Congratulations!

I guess I'd wait a bit and see if anything changes on Submittable. If it still doesn't work, then you could email someone at H5 on Monday.

Thanks, Sara! The link is in the email, which I just received. :) My first High Five fiction acceptance and only my second fiction acceptance with the Highlights group!

Thanks, Diana, Ev, and JFriday! I didn't know you had to have the acceptance email to accept the contract. I always thought you could just go directly into Submittable and accept. But the link from the email changes the format of the acceptance. That was interesting to learn.

Has anyone heard back from a regular mail submission recently?

I sent a couple poems a few weeks back before I realized they are now accepting verse electronically (I don't think that was the case last year). I'm wondering if I should re-submit through Submittable.

I don't want to muddle my submissions.

Jeanne, I've been wondering if I should use Submittable to follow up on a poem revision request.

  6/27/14  Submitted poem
  7/31/14  Bear card
10/27/14  Revision request
  12/9/14  Sent revised poem
5/26/15  Received a second revision request
    6/1/15  Sent second revision

I've heard nothing since last June. Anybody got any suggestions about what I should do?

I would too, Ev. Do you know who handles poetry? JB gave me a rundown of who's doing what on a recent email, so if you don't have a name let me know. (I had contacted her about one of my articles that I hadn't heard on.) Two of their editors left in the last few months, so maybe things are getting shuffled around a bit.

I sent these same two poems to them about nine months ago and never heard back with is really unusual for Highlights. So, this was a resubmit with the assumption that the first submission had gotten lost somewhere along the way.

For me, I will probably give it another couple of weeks and see if I hear back and then submit online.

For you, Ev, I'd probably go ahead and send an e-mail.

Joëlle Dujardin, is the editor I've corresponded with regarding a couple of my poetry submissions. That was a couple of years ago, so I'm not sure if she's still a good contact.
