Maybe there are other similar sites out there, but just his morning I found this site where you can plug in characteristics that you might want associated with your character and find names that mean that. So for example, you could plug in "brave" and it will list boy names or girl names which are tied to bravery in some way. So it's like a reverse dictionary of baby names. Here it is:

Ooooh fun! Thanks for posting. I love playing with characters names. I've changed my current MC's name three times already... can't quite find exactly what I'm looking for -- maybe this will help. And I can call it research, not procrastinating, right??

The next time one of my characters refuses to tell me what I should call them, :naughty I'll surely play with this. Thank you, Jean.

What a cool idea! If I can add another suggestion, I'm a big fan of http://20000-names.com, which has names from tons of different ethnic, national, and religious backgrounds. They're arranged alphabetically and also give the meaning, and they're nice if you know your character's background but just can't put your finger on exactly the right name.

I've used http://20000-names.com when I can't seem to find just the right name.  Excited to find out about another useful site.
