Plot Summary for Children's Book?

Discussion started on

Howdy friends!

Well, I feel dumb asking this question,  :paperbag but how does one write a plot summary for a children's book that is roughly 19,000 words in length?  If a publisher asks for a plot summary, do they mean a paragraph summary inside your cover letter, or a 1 to 2-page summary of the story?  I'm not asking about a chapter summary, just a basic plot summary.

Are there any good examples out there I can look at?

Not a dumb question at all. For a short children's book like you mentioned a basic one page summary should give the editor plenty of info. If a publishers guidelines specify that all they want to see is a query letter, then just include a one or two paragragh summary as part of the letter. hope that helps. As far as good examples, just google query letter or plot summary examples. You'll find lots.  :flowers2

This sounds more like a synopsis. Is that what you're looking for?

If so, here are two links to help write a synopsis:

2. http://www.institutechildrenslit.com/rx/ws05/panicfree.shtml

I hope this helps!
